There is still something going on with dhcp. I removed the other hosts, just so that you can see one in the log. Its happening alot.

Note: I removed the mac address, thats why it shows up as c8:60:00:(REMOVED)

Thats is not problem with DHCP you should look at your "Kodiak" that is doing DHCPINFORM and DHCPACK.
Don't know why but........:D

Does your firmware already address the issue they are having with the Xbox?

No. Asus hasn't released any newer source code yet, so there's nothing I can do until then.

Well Hopefully sometime this month, Asus feel's comfortable enough to release a .3xx release for the N66U. I know it will probably be buggy as it usually is, but I would like a .3xx version with your fixes/features included. As I recently tested the .345 release, and I know the extender that connects to the N66U from about 25-30 feet away, likes to jump from green(good) to orange(ok) signal often. With the .345 release to me the extender seemed to stay more steady with green bar signal. I plan to test this some more the next couple day's, and see what I find using the .345 release.

I'll give them a bit more time to finalize the next release. If it takes too long, I'll see if they would agree to send me a copy of the latest sources so I can at least make a release based on it (assuming that code is stable enough of course). I did that back in the 3.0.0.3.157 days, where they agreed to give me a copy of unreleased code to work with, the only thing was that I wasn't allowed to release the source code - only compiled firmwares.

Yeah I understand, and I don't want them to rush one out myself. But it would be nice to see one come out by the end of this month, beginning of april at the latest. I plan to run this .345 for a few days myself. Seeing As asus has put out two beta .3xx release's for the N66U, and the latest one being a .345 beta release. It seem's when they decide to release a final build, it may be a .35x/.36x build for the N66U. I know I probably come off as a PITA sometimes Merlin, but I do appreciate the work you do based off the asus build's.

If it doesn't let you select an extension channel then it's probably because it's back to 20 MHz.

I havent run a stock firmware since the official 260 release, but I dont remember it behaving this way? Did they or you add something post-260 that auto-senses something and would revert the 20/40 setting back to straight 20mhz?

Is this intentional, or do I have a bad flash or something and need to reset defaults and start over?

Not that I'm aware of. But then, I don't run my 2.4 GHz with a 40 MHz channel width, as this is far too unreliable due to how crowded the 2.4 GHz space is.

Its not the host, all of the clients are doing this, I just grabbed the one for "Kodiak". I reverted back to 24 and all of this stopped. So something is going on with the dhcp server.

I have had this problem with Windows 7 machines on my LAN. Not sure why it does it, but it was the same on my old router with OpenWRT.

I created a dnsmasq.conf.add file in /jffs/configs and it stopped:

Code:
dhcp-option=252,"\n"

Hello,

My wife went to sleep, so I could tinker with the router. I installed .25b and my openvpn client and selective routing is working.

I added a sleep 20 and it seems to help selective routing for my desktop, but my VOIP is a problem. Sometimes my desktop is on my ISP, which is correct, except my VOIP does not connect. I can reboot the linksys voip box, reboot the router and nothing. Only when I stick a pin in the cable modem reset button and reboot the router does the voip connect again. I had this problem on my DSL modem as well. I doubt there is anything that can be done in the router, correct? It would be nice if it could send a signal to the cable modem to reboot every time the router reboots.

Not sure what this is but only my laptop keeps doing it. 7 x64

I know this is off topic related to ur release Merlin, but after using the .345 beta release from asus for a day. I can say at least the 2.4ghz band on my N66U is stronger, with the latest wireless drivers being used in the .345 release. Reason i say this is, because i have a extender connected to my N66U using 2.4ghz Band from 30 feet away. It is keeping a steady green bar which means very good connection. Which using ur latest release, using same 2.4ghz wireless settings. My extender likes to jump between green/orange, meaning from very good connection rate, to ok connection rate.

I also have a extender connected to the N66U using 5ghz band, and a xbox connected to it. So i will see how its handling over next day or two, and update how its working. But so far the 2.4ghz band is better for me on the .345 beta release.

Just bought a RT-N66U on Saturday and was having TONS of strange issues that had me questioning all kinds of devices in my house. Biggest issues I had was my iphone 5 dropping wireless connection constantly. It was dropping just sitting there on my desk, it was dropping listening to radio apps and other streaming apps, it was dropping when the phone was put into lock. Wireless speeds were all over the place and very erratic. A few latops would just drop connection at random even when they had full signal and were only about 10-15ft away from the router. Never had this issue with my old linksys/cisco e1000 even though the wireless speeds were really slow and the options were very limited. Then I started having issues with a game I've been playing for a few years. The launcher wouldn't load out of nowhere and nothing was changed on my computer in regards to the game and I didn't really even consider the router to be an issues as I've never had issues with it and I wouldn't even think that would have any correlation with it. I guess I was wrong.

I was ready to take the thing back and try a netgear of equal value and performance until a read a thread on the Asus forums that recommended I try your firmware. So I figured I would give it a shot and see if I had any luck.

Uploaded your 25b Firmware and BAM!!! Everything is running spectacular now! The game launcher finally connects again and the wireless appears to be working properly now and not disconnecting me randomly and I was even able to finally see the 5ghz connection on my iphone 5 which I couldn't get to work to save my life even when I told it to connect manually. And as an added bonus i have all these fancy new features in the router which are VERY helpful and well though out.

THANK YOU!! for providing this to everyone and I appreciate the work you've put into it. Much respect! You saved me a trip to Fry's and a lot of headaches. I've been battling this thing for 3 days and was at the end of my pain threshold. So far so good though with your Firmware. I will check in if I have any issues, but for now it appears to be miles ahead of the 260 Firmware that it came with.

Just out of curiousity, are there any plans to implement some sort of Ad blocker or is this even possible now? Any info you have on this would be much appreciated! Thanks again, Merlin!

Glad it worked out :) The driver used by Asus in 245 through 266 has generated a lot of stability issues, many of which were resolved with the driver in 270 (which I am also using).

I have no plan to integrate ad blocking in the firmware at the moment, for various reasons. There are quite a few different guides here on the forums showing how to manually implement it however if you feel like going down the manual setup road.

Yeah, I was noticing the 260 firmware was hit or miss for a lot of people as I browsed various forums trying to make sense of it all. Glad you have provided a more stable driver thats working MUCH better. Appreciate it!

As far as the ad blocker... Yeah, I don't mind trying to implement it manually. Can you provide me with a link to one you recommend? I'll give it a go.

Thanks again!

Any hints on setting up a NFS share?
When I try to mount on OSX (Montain Lion) i am getting the error: Permission Denied

EDIT ######

I guess the problem is my HDD is NTFS formated.

Merlin,

Why the option "no_root_squash" is always added on every share on /etc/exports?

I tried hints on this thread: http://forum.xbmc.org/archive/index.php?thread-137937-1.html

But can't create a share without "no_root_squash"

EDIT ##########

Tried to force a exportfs command, with verbose:

exportfs: /tmp/mnt/NTFS_1TB does not support NFS export

:(

Best

Because the router runs everything under root (or admin, to be more precise). If you really need an export without that option for some reason, you can create a custom export file. I add it by default to avoid answering tons of questions on why a default basic export doesn't work.

And yeah, you need a Linux filesystem for reliable NFS exporting.

I'm running .345 beta firmware and it's great

Hi all,

my worst nightmares with this router ended with this beta firmware .345, which I have found on the other user post in this forum. Actually he had problems with xbox, for me that was erratic wireless performance with my samsung ES8000 TV - both in 2.4 and 5 Ghz spectrum. I also own Dlink DIR-655, TPlink WR1043ND and Apple Airport Extreme - none of these would ever drop a connection with my TV, even Apple on 5 Ghz.

I like Merlin's firmware alot, but right after flashing latest 270.25b, my TV dropped connection in 5 minutes. Went back to .345 Asus beta - it's all right since then. So my guess, after Asus release next firmware update, which incorporates wireless drivers used in .345 beta, and after Merlin reuses it for his own build, all problems (for me at least) will be gone. If next Asus release will force other wireless errors, I'll be going back to .345 beta firmware, which works fine for me (though I'm not using that 'optimize for xbox' setting, so can't comment how it's working).

Now it's only a lack of Merlin's added features in this beta firmware.

Just a heads up - my jffs partition got wiped after the upgrade. I have a backup that I will put on now but that was unexpected.

And it gets better - now the jffs partition is readonly:

Code:
admin@RT-N66U:/jffs# pwd
/jffs
admin@RT-N66U:/jffs# mkdir configs
mkdir: can't create directory 'configs': Read-only file system
admin@RT-N66U:/jffs#
All fixed after restore from backup. I selected the Format jffs on next reboot option in the GUI and then restored. All good.
