Hello Merlin,

I have two HDDs and configured both to spindown after 5 minutes of inactivity.

I checked the log and everything seems ok:

Nov 3 15:37:08 sd-idle-2.6[432]: spinning down /dev/sdb after 10 mins
Nov 3 15:39:08 sd-idle-2.6[432]: spinning down /dev/sda after 28 mins 30 secs

These are my HDDs:
- Seagate Expansion (1.5TB)
- Seagate FreeAgent Go (1TB)

However, I checked my HDDs and despite the log message above, one of them was running. (the expansion one)

Is there another way to double check if anything went wrong with the script that puts the HDD to sleep?

Best

If you have anything that can write to disk (like Download Master), it will prevent the disk from spinning down.

Not all disks/controllers support the spin down command. I read somewhere how to test it by manually spinning down the disk, to verify that the disk responds to the command.

First of all many thanks for the great work!!!

Love it tho have the stock firmware with some additional features.

Concerning "sleeping mode" I do have the same problem as guipel.

I do have two external Disks connected to my Asus RT-N66U.

I do have problems also with the Seagate Desktop Drive 3TB.

The log shows at different times "spinning up" "spinning down", but the Disk is the whole time spinning.

It seems to be that the Drive does not react to the spinning up / down sequences.

Is there anything I can monitor or some sequences I can pass over by telnet to test this functionality further?

Can I run extra software?

According to this link:

http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/FAQ/SpinDownUSBHarddisks

the Seagate needs some special parameters.

Any idea?

Thanks!!
