RT-AC86U and Dual WAN load balancing problems

What you talked about is called "source based routing". This feature is usually available on business class routers. You may search the keyword "source based routing" in their spec sheets. If what you need is just a stable dual WAN, you may try Synology router. I've been using it for the past...

    AiMesh and Smart Connect

I searched but couldn't get a definite answer. Smart Connect (band steering) is not supported on older models such as RT-AC68U. What if we use a newer model as AiMesh router and enable Smart Connect, then use older model as AiMesh node? For instance, use RT-AC86U as AiMesh router (with Smart...

    LED setting not surviving reboot

With settings in the GUI. Here's the way to reproduce the problem: 1) From GUI (either web portal or iPhone App) set the LED to off. Visual confirm that the LED is off on the router chassis). 2) Reboot the router. All LED come back on. 3) From GUI, the setting is still showing "off" (which...

    LED setting not surviving reboot

RT-AC86U, Merlin 386. It looks like when the router reboots, the LED lights will turn on regardless the previous settings.

My humble review on Synology RT2600ac

Somehow related. If Merlin has those features, and/or has stable dual-WAN, I wouldn't have to switch. By the way, Synology has comprehensive website categories built-in, also leverages Google safe browsing API, which is very impressive.

My humble review on Synology RT2600ac

First of all, there's no such thing that "one router is better than another". Different routers fit in different use cases (scenarios). I've been using RT-AC86U (with Merlin) for quite a while. With community support, custom scripts, etc., I'm pretty happy with it. The only reason I want to...

How to enable custom script on AiMesh nodes?

Thank you very much! Works like a charm!

How to enable custom script on AiMesh nodes?

RT-AC86U, Merlin 386.1_2. I want to enable custom scripts on AiMesh nodes. But when I put the node IP in web browser and login, it automatically redirects to the main router portal. In the node's log, I found the following, even though the main router has custom script enabled, which indicate...

How to confirm services-start script was called?

RT-AC86U, Merlin 386.1_2. I want LAN port (eth1 - eth4) to be disabled after router reboot. I did the following: 1) "Enable JFFS custom scripts and configs" was set to "yes". 2) Created services-start and disablelan scripts in /jffs/scripts directory. Make the script executable. The scripts...

To AiMesh or not to AiMesh - that is the question

From wireless roaming perspective, the difference between AiMesh and AP is trivial. For me, the driver of using AiMesh is easy of management. I have 3 routers at home, with wireless MAC filter. Without AiMesh, I'd have to replicate the config across routers manually.

    Traffic Analyzer Piechart

Regardless what the "explanation" is, it still doesn't make sense from a UI perspective. #1 If the "uncategorized pie" is based on # of devices, then it should be consistent across the chart. Why the some are based on data consumption and some are based on # of devices? #2 The largest pie...

    Traffic Analyzer Piechart

Thank you for the information. But it is still a mysterious why 700MB has a larger slice than 2.34GB in the pie.

Thank you for your response. I did initialize all the settings, was hoping that it will clear all residue data from previous.

    Traffic Analyzer Piechart

RT-AC86U, Merlin 386.1_2 (same problem in 386.1). Problem happens even after factory reset. Problem #1: There are always 6 slices in the pie chart, even though it was supposed to show "top 5 clients". Problem #2: The "unknown" client was shown as the largest slice with 703.72MB. While the 2nd...
