Asus 86u (ExpressVpn) and Merlin 384.7.2

I'm trying to get ExpressVpn working on the 86u and I can't seem to get it to to.

I followed this guide for the Merlin install https://www.expressvpn.com/support/vpn-setup/manual-config-for-asus-router-with-openvpn/#merlin

Under the Vpn service tab it shows connected. I'm only using it at the moment using "Exclusive" using my laptop, but when I set it up,I have no internet using the laptop.

Do I need to forward some ports?
Did you create a policy rule to route traffic through the vpn for a specified device?

The bottom of the client settings , you will see policy rules. Enable policy rules and then choose your device in the list and just add and apply. It should by defaults route to 0.0.0.0 and the interface will be vpn.

Thats what I have done.

What happens if you toggle the vpn off and then back on again, wait 60 seconds and try the laptop again.

Hmmm, is the laptop static addressed or dhcp?

Check and make sure there is no dns settings.

No, on the laptop. Sorry for the confusion. Basically you want the laptop to be in dhcp mode.

Ideally the laptop should be setup with a static private IP. Ex. 192.168.x.x and a dns setting pointing to the routers private address.

Try setting your laptop, and router to have a static ip reserved for your laptop. Then hard code that IP and gateway and dns all into the laptop. Restart the laptop. Did you recently flash a new version of f/w and not reset to defaults?

What version of firmware are you using on the router, and when you flashed to it, did you reset to defaults?

There is a setting on the vpn client page:
Code:
Create NAT on tunnel
Make sure this is set to yes.
