I am also in the market for a new router now. The Blue Cave as well as the RT-AC86U are available for the same price. What is the best choice than?

Go for the 86U, definitely.

Just an update, I returned my Blue Cave and decided to build the network at home. Got an EdgeRouter X + Ubquiti AP Lite. So far its been quite solid and issues with me. I also got a 68U from T-Mobile and flashed to the Asus firmware, this is been used as a repeater for the TV and Plex Sever.
