ASUS EA-AC87- How to add 2.4GHZ Functionality

TechPup

Occasional Visitor
To obtain 2.4GHZ Coverage, does the EA-AC87 need to be used with another device (AP or converted router AP) that has 2.4GHz functionality? The problem I have is that I have a mixture of devices that are wireless 2.4 GHZ only capable and 5.0GHZ capable. From the Asus literature I know that the EA-AC87 will add an extra 5.0GHz band to my router, but I still need an AP with 2.4 GHZ capability. Can the EA-AC87 be connected to the LAN port of a converted router access point or must it have a direct connection of its own to my router, which is located on a different floor of my house. Can a powerline AV2 device connected to an unmanaged switch be used to connect both the converted router access point and the Asus EA-AC87?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
