Asus Mesh Nodes

Question: Asus router (RT-AX86U Pro) I'm using as my main and is fully supported. I have a older RT-AC68U that I'm using as a Mesh Node with a wired back haul(out of support) Does it matter that I'm using an older device? I'm I putting my network at risk? My first thought was that the RT-AC68U is not using its firmware and using the main router instead therefore it should be safe?? I'm really not sure maybe someone can advise?

Great, that's what I was thinking. I will admit I don't fully understand how the AI Mesh works and how it is able to maintain the same SSID and not have conflict. Thank you

maintain the same SSID and not have conflict

AiMesh has nothing to do with it. Wireless routers using the same channels share the available bandwidth regardless of SSID name. This is how Wi-Fi works. Routers hear each other and wait for their turn to transmit and receive data.

Not AI Mesh, but AiMesh. Nothing AI there, just a marketing name of Asus extra "mesh" software in Asuswrt. Like AiProtection, AiCloud and other Ai things they have there. Asus likes to mimic popular abbreviations in their marketing.

Asus AI is... Always Incredible
Asus SDN is... Self-Defined Network
