ASUS ROG Strix GS-BE18000, slow speeds

What do the router port link rate indicators ( either internal or port lights) display as the link rate ? It will be either 2500, 1000, or 100 Mbit/s

Test the xbox connection with your laptop using the cable to the xbox at the xbox.
repeat the test with the laptop at the xbox location with the xbox cable connected to another router LAN port. Any changes ?

Since the xbox only supports a 1 Gbit LAN connection, if you have or can borrow a 1 Gbit switch, plug that switch into the xbox cable at the router and then plug a new known good cable between the router and the switch. Rerun the speed tests from the xbox location with your laptop..
Sometimes there are incompatibilities with 2.5G ports and other devices.

Thx great advise but I tried using the 1 Gb switch in between the be 18000 and the Xbox sx, upload speed is still low at 3xxmbps… I tried using my other AX86U and pro and tried directly connecting to the modem, every ran smooth and correctly. I am sure the be18000 is the bottle neck. And all indicator light displayed coorrectly 2.5G wan showed up as 2.5G and 1G wan showed up as 1G

All i can suggest at this point is to factory reset the router, upload the latest firmware, factory reset again and hand configure basic settings and see if you get anything different. Otherwise you may want to return it.

By any chance did you accept the license for AiProtection or AiCloud or similar ? If you did, disable the features and reject the license. You have to do both. A factory reset wouldn't hurt after doing that.

Thx man!! Just feel bad to purchase something this expensive…. Maybe just buy some cheap router next time😅😅I live in Hong Kong and the exchange policy is very difficult…

Yeah there is something wrong with this F router..... Im guessing firmware. Because I tried two different routers, updated to latest firmware, and I could only get around 650 mbps down capped on BOTH, regardless if I was using 1 device or 4 devices downloading at the same time.

It's too coincidental that both routers have the same issue.

Random test. It just can't go any faster because of my 1Gb connection. But here you go. More than 650 for sure. BTW - I am getting the same result while testing with a cable. The device I did the test on is Wi-Fi 6E capable, not Wi-Fi 7.

Here is another test I just ran. At the same time, I ran Speedtest and iperf (download from the NAS). As you can see, the speed I am getting is 898 + 628 = 1,526 Mbit/sec at the very moment the screenshot was taken. Again, Wi-Fi 6E. One wall between the laptop and the router. More than double the speeds you are getting.

Are these WiFi speed? And what brand “two different routers” are u testing? I am having lan/wan problems

So I bought a 2nd router that I plan to return to test the damn thing. Exact same results..... Topping off at ~650mbps across multiple devices when standing in the same room and line of sight of the router.

It asked to install the latest firmware on first startup which I did. Changed no other settings. Same results :(
I believe you still need to factory reset, through the menu choice on the app/web GUI, reset button, or WPS method.... Upgrading the firmware doesn't seem to do this, probably not due to Auto Update option likely to knock down your internet overnight....

I also just brought the GS BE18000 and I have problems with the 2.5G wan. I connect my laptop directly to the ISP modem and got speed of 2.3G up and down with no problem. When I placed this router in between the connection, the internal speed test in the router GUI only show speed of 1.6 down and 2.0 up. Also I connect my XBOX SX directly to the ISP modem, I got speed of around 1G up and down which is great but, again, when the router is in between the connection, the download speed is fine at 1G but the upload speed drops to 300 mbps (in the internal speed test in XBOX). All QOS disable and tried resetting the router to default. I need help pls!!!!
Try cloning your laptop MAC onto the GS-BE18000...

How to reject the license?

@4MKA There's a new firmware 3.0.0.6.102_39009 for ZenWiFi BT10 released yesterday which specifically mentions Apple's new N1 networking chip used in iPhone 17/Pro/Air:
1. Improved AiMesh stability.
2. Improved compatibility with Apple N1.
3. Minor GUI bug fixes.

If I remember correctly, GS-BE18000 and ZenWiFi BT10 both uses Broadcom BCM6766 SoC. Maybe that could be your problem, but then again it doesn't explain the same capped speeds for your other devices. What if you only test your other devices and disconnect the iPhone 17 from your network? Is it still capped at 500 - 600 Mbps?

Hi. I have the same issue. I bought 3 units of the GS-BE18000. My provider is Movistar (Spain, Europe), and I have a 1 Gb symmetrical connection (PPPoE). I get 930 Mb down, but I can't reach more than 360 Mb up. I've tried everything, swapped all the nodes in router mode, and it's always the same. Something's off—even with QoS enabled, the TrendMicro signature won't download. I've opened a ticket with Asus, but they don't acknowledge the issue.

even with QoS enabled

Not sure about this model in particular, but there is a chance QoS on it is broken like in other Wi-Fi 7 ASUS routers. QoS is also unrelated to your upload bandwidth issue and TrendMicro signature not updating.

That might be where the problem comes from. I previously had 3 units of the BQ16, and the speeds were amazing. However, the 6 GHz module in the main unit burned out—it couldn't handle the summer heat in Seville. I had QoS configured exactly the same way as I do now.

I believe it's a firmware issue that will be resolved in the future.
