I use the RP-AC55 wireless repeater in media bridge mode to connect my pc to my 5 GHz 11ac wireless network (Tp-link VR900). The highest link rate at which the repeater will connect is 400 Mbps even when it's very close to the router. I have a tablet that's connects to the same network at around 800 Mbps. I played with different channels and channel widths and wireless modes on the modem/router but never got higher than 400 Mbps. RP-AC55 is supposed to be 867 Mbps capable at 5 GHz 11ac. Why can't I get it to connect at higher link speeds? Thanks

867Mbps is the maximum speed the RP-AC55 is capable of assuming a bandwidth of 80MHz. 400Mbps is its maximum speed using a bandwidth of 40MHz. So, for whatever reason, you are using a bandwidth of 40MHz.

I manually forced 80 MHZ on the Tp-link router and RP-AC55 still shows about 360 Mbps while my Samsung Tab S from 2014 connects at 800 Mbps. I can also see that the network is actually 80 MHz from the Wifi analyzer app. Is it possible that the web ui is reporting the wrong link rate? Also if you force 80 MHz will the router let RP-AC55 connect on a 40 MHz wide channel?

Sorry I have no personal experience of either of those devices. It might just be a hardware compatibility problem. Maybe it's the physical placement of the RP-AC55. Having it sitting literally on top of the mains socket can't be ideal from an RF point of view.
