ASUS RT-AC66U - what "current" Merlin should I be looking at?

Hello,

I got our ASUS RT-AC66U in fall 2014 and we are currently sitting on Merlin FW 3.0.0.4.374.43_2-01j9527.

Whilst this specific FW has been solid - I am certain I probably need to be a bit more current.

What's the current temperture on the latest "Merlin"?

Appreciate any comments.

Cheers!

Sonic

If you want to stay on my same fork stream, it's now up to release 16 (you are on release 1). See the sticky at the top of the forum to download. You should be able to load this without performing a reset to factory defaults.

If you want to try Merlin's later builds, I'd recommend 378.56_2 (IMO the latest 380.57 seems to be having some early growing pains). A reset to factory defaults will be required.

In any event, you should update to one or the other to close numerous security exposures which have been closed.

Thanks so much for the update. So - can I simply take your current fork and flash right over top of what I currently have?

Also if I moved to your latest fork but then wanted to change to a Merlin 378.56_2 - would I still have the ability to do that without too much trouble?

Finally - whats' the recommended way to get my settings back in place? Manually (Take screencaps of everything) or restrore a settings file (probably not a good thing..?)

Cheers,

Sonic.

Yes, just load though the gui...all your settings should be preserved.

Yes, load through the gui interface, then perform a reset to factory defaults. (If you run into trouble, you may have to load an intermediate Merlin level, 378.55 first, but I don't think it's required for the AC66)

Doing screenshots and manually configuring is always the safest way. An alternative is my NVRAM Save/Restore Utility, which is a command line utility run from a USB stick and can be used to transfer your settings from one firmware level to another.
