Release ASUS RT-AX86 Series(RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_24401 (2025/10/20)

I did my hard WPS button reset, and alexa groups still isn't working, so am able to confirm something has changed since the update. So, now resetting my usual settings after testing with the factory defaults.

It isn't obvious, because they said

"Nothing for 6 months, and now 2 updates in recent weeks"
It is obvious. Nothing for 6 months is Wrong. There was an update on Sep 1st. That is far from being "nothing for 6 months". Reading is fundamental...

You're welcome, I'll continue to dig into the problem. Like I said though, I probably wouldn't have noticed it, if you hadn't said something, or I, on the rare occasion wanted multi room music, and it didn't work. From what I can tell all normal daily activity is working on the new firmware.

Here's a reddit thread talking about speaker groups and stereo connections; related to Oct 20th AWS issue. Some of the comments are from today a few hours ago. People are having the issue that we are talking about. Strange thing is my problem went away when I rolled back the firmware. A big coincidence I guess. I will reinstall the new firmware and see what happens.

I've been following the Reddit post linked here, and it seems like the audio issues are amazon related more, and more. However, Asus does have my report I sent in by feedback, just in case they need to look at something as well, on their end.
I figured I'd file a feedback report since I was able to reproduce issues, before reading the Reddit thread.

Did @ATLga, get banned, the name changed to @Deleted Member 67889, and the rank went from Senior Member to Guest. I've never seen that happen before on a forum, usually the person, and their posts / profile all disappear.

@ATLga, if you're still watching the thread, I have an Alexa update for you. I was able to re-create the Everywhere group tonight, but it only allowed me to add the two Echo(s) that were the same generation (4th Generation.). selecting one of the other models instantly greyed out the 4th Gen in the list. However, with the 2 4th Gen selected, music does play as it should on both speakers. This is with the latest firmware from Asus released yesterday.

As of 1 AM CDT / 2 AM EDT, multi room audio has been restored to Alexa, meaning stereo pairs should be working as well now. I sent an updated report to Asus about the problem being AWS related, and most likely not their firmware. So, it's good that it will save them work now. People on the above linked Reddit thread are also confirming it working, and now I am confirming as well.

Wanted to post that I'm having the issue now where the router can't connect to the update server to check for updates. I don't think it's anything on my end, or this firmware, as it worked fine initially. This is recent as of yesterday morning. I'll check later today to see if it resolves itself. Otherwise, everything else is working as it should be. This happens from time to time, but usually I don't have to do anything, and it resolves itself.

My friends AX86U has not gotten this upgrade via auto upgrade. I really do not want to do the upgrade over a VPN as it is a 100 mile trip if something borks. Did not do the recommended factory reset after the last firmware update.

UPnP is disabled by default on the latest firmware, has anyone tried re-enabling it?

With my GT-AXE16000 I did not like to do factory resets also. I'd just wait for another firmware update and directly install that. Eventually you'll "get there", without the hard reset. So if I'd come back from vacation and there were two or more updates since a recommended hard reset after installation, I'd install the 2nd to latest one, then just install the latest one right after...

What wrong is expected to happen with UPnP enabled?

Dunno honestly.... Just if I have trouble I'd immediately try turning it back on...

Even before Asus changed the defaults, I disabled UPNP manually after answering questions if I needed it on or not, and I've never had an issue since. I used to use Transmission the BitTorrent client for the occasional Linux iso download, and UPNP was nice for randomizing the port, but I got rid of transmission as I was able to download from HTTP just as easily. So, I turned off UPNP as everyone suggests keeping it off unless needed, just for the added security. I haven't missed having it on since. I haven't tried turning it back on, on the new firmware.

I've gone from one firmware update to the next sometimes. It can be caused by so many things from observation. Sometimes checking the beta option gets it to work. (Sometimes you need to check both with and without the box checked to find an update. For example one would expect with the beta box checked it would also find release level updates but it has happened that it didn't).

Sometimes AiProtection seems to block it and after an update repairs it. Sometimes after a node firmware update it all of a sudden stops working...

Of course there was that one time they pushed an update in the background bricking some units....

That Tuesday night AWS knocked out my Ring cameras. For some reason I checked and the server status was good. Maybe it was faulty reporting because I thought it was my network but resolved itself by the morning...
