Release ASUS RT-AX86 Series(RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S) Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388_24401 (2025/10/20)

Check you DHCP page in LAN settings. If you see some unknown devices in manual IP and your domain is set to asus.com, then you have this malware affecting quite a few. I had it on my AX86U Pro. Solved by applying latest firmware wand then factory reset.
In my case, this happened shortly after the latest firmware from October 20th, 2025 was installed, and a hard factory reset via the WPS and power buttons had been performed. So for me, it showed up on a clean setup. It worked initially, and then quit shortly after the AWS issues. Also, my router was not hit by malware. I don't use AICloud, and all info that is known to be blank, or distorted with the malware infection, is correctly populated.

You should not rely on the WPS reset or hard factory reset. It has been shown to not completely clear the settings on the AX86U. Might be a good idea to Factory Reset and Initialize from the GUI and after a reboot do the WPS reset. Then manually configure the router.

Thank you, I thought it was the other way around where the WPS method was the one that was reliable and the software one was not.
 
Curiously, both the Web GUI and App revealed firmware upgrades for 2 nodes (AX56U), however, the upgrades only worked via manual uploads.

So, it is gradually getting fixed!!

Good to know, before I do the double NAT suggestion, does the 86U have a button to press to turn off the radios, like TP-Link routers do? I know it has the LED button, and the WPS button. Can the WPS button be used to disable WiFi physically ?
 
Yes, this can be done: Wireless > Professional > Enable Radio Yes/No
Thank you, I found info on how to change the WPS button as well, and set it to toggle radios. I have disabled the radios, and have connected the computer to the 86U to make the changes. Also the internal update checker is working again.

I just posted right above you with a screenshot, that it's working again, and then there was a post above mine confirming it was starting to work again, as well.

The latest firmware seems to be the one from October 20, 2025, which I manually applied a couple days ago. Now, it says I'm up to date when I check now, after the server issue was resolved. The RT-AX86U is in backup router mode for me now. I've turned off the WiFi radios, and just connected the computer to it wired, to be able to check the UI for updates. My main router now is a TP-Link BE9300, after doing a factory reset on it, setting it up clean, and then adjusting the problematic settings, seems to be rock solid now.
