So when I got on 388.6 somehow Aiprotection, Parental Guidance and Web App & Filters got enabled, I started looking around and noted that under Banwidth Monitor and Data Classification I would see results. So I went in the config disabled all of that, which finally shut down the BWDPI (Trend Micro) engine and gave me back my bandwidth.

Now after every firmware upgrade, after a few minutes, I'll check Bandwidth Monitor and Data Classfication to make sure there's nothing there, otherwise it suggets that the BWDPI Engine is on, and I see that in my Speed Test / spdMerlin results that drop from 930/930 to 400/600 and WiFi speeds drop by 100/150. Even with QoS disabled and all the settings blanked out. Another trick someone shared and it worked for me too, its posted earler in this thread, was to disable App Analysis under data Classification and hit apply twice to quiet it down. That also assumes QoS is disabled.

Just something else to check. Selfless plug - another, reason I run BACKUPMON on the router and nodes 🤷‍♂️

I just checked mine with AIProtection on, but both Parental Guidance and Web App & Filters turned off and got my Max 900/900 (again with AIProtection on), so that setting doesn't seem to affect my setup. As such I’m leaving it on, as it does not seem to adversely affect my speeds.

Thank you for the suggestions, but I'm afraid this is either down to the router or the power supply.

I hard reseted the router (yes, the proper way :D) and tested, same results.
Then, I reseted again followed by a downgrade and new reset. Same results.
Finally, I even went back to latest official firmware from Asus, and same result.

Over ethernet and at router level, everything is good.

I'm out of ideas. Guess I'll be living with the wifi like this for a while :(

I have a different issue with Guest network than some have since 388.5 in another thread. Because for me internet works always.

On Guest 1 all is fine, intranet disabled (device with different IP), can not ping or see anything on local network..
But on Guest 2 (device with router IP) its weird, if intranet enabled, I can ping and all; but if intranet disabled, sure there is no ping, yet I can access my LAN devices (file sharing works too) and even scan local network and all is shown??
A known bug or...?
So no one has this?
Maybe I should factory reset and test again... 🤔
 
I'm guessing this is closed source and nothing can be done. But in parental control, I went to set up wifi times for kids. I put in a block time x to x, and it blocked it 24/7, tried changing to an online time from x to x, and it still blocked it 24/7. Had to disable it.

There's definitely some issues with the parental controls with the 388.6.
When I want to enable internet all day for a PC, I set the online scheduling to 00:00 - 23:59. The PC will have internet, but windows will complain with the globe icon and says "not connected". Some apps have issues with this, like Spotify.

So, when I remove ALL online schedules, the main family page says that PC has internet blocked. This is when the internet actually works as is.

I've reverted back to 388.5 for now.

Maybe I should factory reset and test again... 🤔
I checked mine. I use guest network 2 and I can’t see my NAS or anything else on the local network.

Why I mentioned it, AIprotect off/on/on/on/off again 🤷‍♂️

My second wipe seems to have done something regarding my issue where it dropped all connections and seemingly acted like it rebooted completely or partly.
It's mostly just the disabled logging of Skynet that is the difference. I'll test a complete second week before testing a fully rebooted system with my preferred setup.
Could aggressive logging be part of a problem? Skynet is kind of spammy when logging is on.

What kind of USB storage are you using to run Skynet+Diversion+Entware on?
 
RT-AX88U. There seems to be some mounting issue with USB 3.0 Patriot Memory (Supersonic Rage Elite) that I have. It sometimes appears "Unmounted" after restarting the router, and if it manages to mount (manually or on its own), sometimes not all addons show up in the main menu. Sometimes Diversion is missing from "LAN" menu, sometimes there is an issue with Unbound, and despite amtm showing it being installed, when opening the script, it shows as not installed. This never happened before with any previous firmware update.

Addons that I have installed: Diversion, Skynet, YazFi and Unbound. All up to date.

UPDATE: There is also an unusual delay after router restart with establishing WAN connection with the ISP. It eventually manages to connect, but this also never happened before. Also, the issue with loading addons and them functioning properly creates issues with WIREGUARD connections and DNS. Smartphones lost the connection with the internet entirely, and when trying to change/adjust "WAN DNS Settings" and "DNS Director", I managed to bring it back, but then it started leaking DNS servers of my ISP (https://mullvad.net/en/check), despite being seemingly connected to the VPN server. Reverting to 388.5 fixes everything, all addons and devices work properly behind assigned and established WIREGUARD connections, and DNS tests show either mullvad or protonvpn DNS (as I initially set up to work this way, depending on the device), instead of my own ISP DNS.

UPDATE2: Someone already reported similar issues in this thread.

If your router's system time reverts to "the default time" it's because the router rebooted. That's the only way that happens. Once it gets "proper" time set it retains that throughout its run-time. Even if it loses WAN connection for a time, you'll not see any sort of time discrepancy such as what you're describing.

@manol68 , you might want to look at a recent command added to AMTM - rd (Router date keeper).
On a reboot, at least the time is “close”. Much closer than default time which might be 1970s
 
Yeah, perhaps if the reboot time is short, depending on the refresh rate of the script; although I've got to wonder how much sooner the application can set the time than it takes the newly-booted system to access NTP.
 
I do have scheduled reboots set, but the first symptom was always a sudden and unexplained loss of the internet on all devices, which I believe was caused by Skynet dropping all packets and preventing access to the internet on all devices. On manual reboot, I then started noticing the wrong time, NTP unable to sync at all, and all issues with the USB drive mounting properly and all other addons. At the same time, the system log showed that Skynet was waiting for NTP to sync while most likely preventing the router (? - some DNS driven glitch seems like) and any device connecting to the internet. This never happened before, and my configuration worked fine for a very long time, but I also remembered that Skynet was updated a few times quite recently in a short time period, which led me to believe some of the recent updates introduced this bug / weird behavior. Disabling Skynet via command "firewall disable" restored all functionality and interenet access, which, for me, proves it must have been partially responsible for the weird behavior I was observing.

My "WAN DNS Setting" was basically untouched (empty) and always left on the default setting. But the below post showed me it might not have been a good idea, even though things were running smoothly for me so far:
This is why @RMerlin always says, "You need Wan DNS servers." Seriously though, You must have something in the WAN DNS1, and WAN DNS2; otherwise, the router will not be able to resolve anything on its own including any of the curl commands needed to update user scripts such as AMTM, Skynet, etc. Coincidental, it may even fail to resolve the necessary NTP server IP addresses from the NTP server addresses used for NTP services causing the routers built in clock to fail to sync. This would also cause DoT to fail.

Reading through the forum a lot of people had some kind of issue when using USB sticks, most of them turned over to a USB SSD drive which do seem to work more reliable. I also experienced issues with USB sticks, they died to soon or encountering all kind of vage and slowing down issues.
So I purchased a USB SSD drive and could not be happier since.
