What's new

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.7 is now available

ASUS just released new firmware today "ASUS RT-BE58 GO Firmware Version 3.0.0.6.102_39125",, so I downloaded their new firmware, extracted their files from the zip, hashed the files, and tried to firmware upgrade the new file, same error as Merlin firmware "It started to "Applying Settings" and then kicked me back to the Main Login page."

So I ran the the firmware check update in the software, which found the new firmware from ASUS, so I ran the install and it worked, and updated the RT-BE58 Go to V3.0.0.6.102_39125.

I then went to install Merlin's ASUS firmware "RT-BE58_GO_3006_102.7_2_nand_squashfs.pkgtb" file and "It started to "Applying Settings" and then kicked me back to the Main Login page."

Any thoughts of what else I can try @RMerlin ? (If this needs to be moved to a seperate thread please do so).
I have previously answered your query about this router and updating its firmware. I suggest you open a new thread because it has NOTHING to do with the firmware release or with Merlinware.

Just to test for you I have applied the latest stock firmware to mine ... see pic below ...

It does indeed state "Applying Settings for quite a while - but eventually displays a percentage updating until done.

I can only assume that something is wrong with your method of updating. Try using an ethernet cable directly between the device you are updating from and this router.

EDIT: I will now revert to Merlinware 3006.102.7.2 again - and post the result back to this post. Here she blows ...

and back to Merlinware [with apologies for screen space taken up on an off topic series of posts !]

I don't believe this is specifically related to this build, however I have noticed that at some points networkmap will stop refreshing client changed and either requires a restart of the main router or a "killall -9" of the networkmap service to start functioning. This can be seen in two ways; first the clients stop refreshing (the obvious way) when a client connects or disconnects, which is true across the main network client list, AiMesh, and Network pages. Second is noticing that the CPU usage drops to nearly nothing across all cores as when networkmap is functioning it averages about ~20-25% across the cores. Restarting the service kicks things back in gear and clients immediately start refreshing thereafter.

All my connection for firmware updates for all my routers are ethernet only. Since your RT-BE58 Go is an AiMesh Node and NOT setup as the main AiMesh router, I thought maybe that might have something to do with the firmware update failing for me, but I found out that is incorrect.

I tested the firmware update with two separate computers (Windows 10 Laptop & Windows 11 PC). The Laptop tested using Chrome & Microsoft Edge browser to get to the GUI (failed firmware update both times). The PC test with Chrome browser (failed firmware update)

I then went to my VMWare Virtual Workstation I run on my laptop with a Virtual Windows 10 Image running, made a copy of the firmware file and put it on the virtual drive C: in a folder called \TEMP and reran the firmware upgrade via the virtual Chrome Browser and it worked this time.

Thanks for your info, and now the setup and documentation of my RT-BE58 GO can begin!

So I am not alone. I posted a question about this behavior but never got a response.
Now It looks like I have something to try besides a reboot.

@RMerlin well I appreciate your work. You just have to endure the questions a little longer. They just banned all routers not made or even assembled in North America. 😂 The ASUS botnet which is being blamed for the unimaginable size of DDOS attacks in the last year isn’t helping the situation either. I wish I could get my hands on ASUS and Broadcom source code because closed source continues to be the source of worse hacks and longer term unnoticed hacks.

This last router was almost $600 I can only imagine the upcoming wonderful quality and insane cost of something as intricate as router hardware and firmware made in NA.

That is off topic as RMerlin indicated earlier when it was brought up. If you want to learn more about the FCC order or complain about the FCC order there is separate thread to have such discussions.

Manufacturing hardware in the US has nothing to do with software-related flaws and won't change anything there. Also, Code Red and Nimda still happened despite Windows being developped in the USA.

Hello, I have a quick question. I've Rog Rapture Axe 16000. When I use the stock Asus firmware, I can access my router via the Asus Router app on my phone, but after installing Merlin, I can’t access it. How can I fix this issue?

Merlin firmware does not support the Asus app. Besides, logging into the router directly is a lot better more options and more secure (most new app users agree to things that open the router up to malicious actors, without understanding the implications).

You've asked this question twice before in other threads
Same replies too - the Asus Router App is a security risk [favours opening your router to WAN access] - way better to access directly via Browser within the LAN - or remotely via VPN.

Per RMerlin years ago when asked about the mobile app:
Configure it through the webui. The mobile app is not supported.

Per RMerlin years ago when asked about the mobile app:
I completely understand that Merlin doesn't officially support the app, but that doesn't mean it won't work under any circumstances. In my case, using both the BE92 and the BE88 on the latest Merlin firmware, the Android app works flawlessly on my OnePlus 15. I don't use it for heavy configurations—just the occasional AiMesh Client Binding and frequently checking connected devices. The app also switches seamlessly between routers. For basic monitoring, it works great.

Has anyone noticed any issues with Dual WAN?
I’m running 3006.102.7_2 and just wanted to test mine out last week to make sure it was still working, but when I unplug my Primary WAN cable it doesn’t detect that it was unplugged so doesn’t fail over. I’m not sure if it was like this in the previous build.

Unsupported doesn't mean it 100% won't work, but nothing is guaranteed. Also it may appear to be working fine, one setting could send your router into a boot loop. You really enjoy that prospect?
Anyway, enough about the app and this frequently discussed topic. Back to the firmware:

The Asus app isn't supported. Doesn't matter if certain features within the app work/doesn't work, or the app works/doesn't work on certain devices (phone or router). Either way, the Asus app is not supported on Asus-Merlin. Asking about how to "fix it" when it isn't supported is basically off topic in a discussion about a Asus-Merlin firmware release version. Another years old past response from RMerlin re the Asus app:
I have no control over the mobile app, it's developed by Asus, not by me.
