No, as I have no idea how that could even be happening (if it does happen).

Hi,
This makes me wonder if I am the only one who can reproduce this in a few steps:

- add an iPhone smartphone to the client list (parental control). No additional schedule is necessary. Internet is blocked.
- check on iPhone, no Whatsapp possible.
- disable wifi on iPhone.
- after 5 seconds enable wifi on iPhone.
- check Whatsapp. You can send en receive messages for 30 seconds.

I was able to reproduce this with any iPhone. Not possible with Samsung.

This seems a bug to me. And since you mentioned yourself "The primary goals of this project are to fix bugs, add a few basic features and tweaks to the original firmware." I thought you'd be interested.

I've just replaced my dead RTAC66U (power trip/surge killed it) with the RTAC68U (with surge protector!). It came with ASUS's latest frimware per-installed and I've now installed Merlin's latest 374.42_2 firmware.

I've manually configured it to match the settings on my old 66 but cannot get the VPN to work. Is there something inherently broken with ASUS's firmware build or is there something new on the 68 that I need to also configure?

Thanks,

HB

Since it only happens with the iPhone, is it possible it's the iPhone that is temporarily using the 3G connection before switching to Wifi?

I don't have any Apple product to test.

Hi,
I asked myself the same question. But I can confirm it is not 3G / mobile internet.

I have tried to reproduce this issue, but I wasn't able. The parental control worked as expected.

Did you also have an iPhone? At this point it seems to be the common element there.

Hi

I would like to ask you if it is in your plans to fix the port forwarding issues when using dual wan with load balance.

No plan to change anything in relation to Dual WAN. That code is too complex, spread all over the firmware code, and I have no simple way to test/debug anything there.

Yes, and I have tried with whatsapp, fb messenger, browser... Nothing was able to get through.

Edit: The test was on Asus RT-AC66U 2.4ghz

Add a firewall rule to forward port 1723 to your router IP (assuming you're using PPTP)

Why turbo mode still exists in this firmware? Afaik with new bootloader it is not possible to overclock Asus RT-AC68x, so it is useless.

Not everyone has the new bootloader.

Thanks for the reply. After trawling through posts here I found an answer from RMerlin to someone's unrelated VPN question that fixed my issue. I was trying to re-use an ASUS account from my old 66U - I didn't realise that they were locked to an individual router by MAC address (of course it's obvious now they have to for this to work!).

Once I created a new account for the 68U all works perfectly again.

Not sure what do you mean.
I thought updating the firmware will update bootloader as well.
Is there any way to check the version and availability of turbo mode?

The bootloader is totally separate from the firmware. The only upgrade available for the RT-AC68U bootloader is the one Asus released that increases the default RAM clock speed.

Thanks, man, for clarifying.
As I can see my router has bl_version=1.0.1.6 so it is not possible to use turbo mode. So:
1. Is there any way to downgrade the version?
2. What are pros&cons of this? I mean - is there any bugs those were fixed in 1.0.1.6 and exist in previous version?
3. Will restore to factory defaults function work with older bootloader (which is not original)?

1. No, unless you had a backup of it.
2. No idea what else was changed in 1.0.1.6
3. I don't understand your question.

Hi everyone, I just flashed the 374.42 (which is great by the way) and I have encountered one small issue. I can only PPTP VPN from my android phone when connected to my network on WIFI. If I turn of WIFI I can't establish a connection.

I have my DHCP ip pool starting at 192.168.10 -254 and ip's 192.168.1.5 - 9 reserved for VPN clients.

Here is part of my log:

Did you configure Port Forwarding on router?

Bootloader & overclocking

I'm trying to figure out what I need (or don't need) to do to set the overclocking in RMerlin's firmware. My bootloader version is 1.0.1.6 so:

1. My DDR clock speed already 666 and therefore do not need to run the ASUS DDR utility - is that correct?

2. With bootloader v1.0.1.6 does the overclock (Admin>Performance tuning) function increasing the CPU to 1000Mhz still work?

Thanks,

HB
