I have the exact same problem with either 376.48_1 or 376.48_3. I've also tried various combinations of setting it manually at the command prompt:

nvram set wl1.1_macmode="disabled"
nvram commit

Nothing can turn off the Guest MAC filter once the main MAC filter is enabled.

I've turned off both 2.4/5 main MAC filters for now.

For me I was able to have it until the last firmware.

nvram_1.0.0.7.txt:wl0.2_macmode=disabled
nvram_1.0.1.4_tuningV2.txt:wl0.2_macmode=disabled
admin@NetService:/tmp/mnt/sda1/backup-jffs/CFE_UPDATE# nvram show | grep wl0.2_macmode
wl0.2_macmode=allow

# nvram show | grep 376
buildno=376.48
size: 53962 bytes (11574 left)
admin@NetService:/tmp/mnt/sda1/backup-jffs/CFE_UPDATE# grep 376 nvram_1.0.0.7.txt nvram_1.0.1.4_tuningV2.txt
nvram_1.0.0.7.txt:buildno=376.47
nvram_1.0.1.4_tuningV2.txt:buildno=376.47

@RMerlin, any idea how to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance

Wifi signal still very bad in 3.0.0.4_376.48_3 build.Signal is very bad and unstable.I back to merlin fork update 374.43

And just a reminder...you need to do a factory reset when moving between 374 and 376 codes (either up or down).

I just got a chromecast and was having issues with 376.44 - without doing much troubleshooting beforehand I upgraded to 376.48_3 and it worked immediately on my RT-AC66U

can this be from AI Cloud? i noticed them at some time after i enabled cloud functions.

im on AC68U, latest merlin build 376.48_1

Thanks

What is the best bootloader for 376.48_1 on rt-ac68u ?

Is 1.0.2.0 from latest offical asus build (.3626) compatible ?

Having strange 5Ghz connections .. bootloader related at all ?

Honestly, don't mess with the bootloader. It will have no impact on wifi performance, and runs a high risk of either permanently bricking, or creating new issues. The only times I ever upgraded my router's bootloader was when I was trying to resolve an nvram-related issues with Asus back before the AC56U launched, and when they provided a bootloader upgrader for the AC68U to increase the RAM clock.

In this same thread, I posted about similar thing. Search for post #218.

Colin already answered my question. I was afraid too, since I've never seen this before. Apparently, it's normal port scanning. What scared me though, was the line after all the failed login attempts, where it says: "Child connection from 61.174.51.215:27898". Chinese IP in my case was different, but still pointing to China.

I've been maintaining ssh servers on various boxes around the world over the last 15 years and these bot login attempts have always been normal to see. It's just ocean waves lapping at the dyke wall.

Thank you so much for your info, greatly appreciated just like I've got from another forum member, Colin. For you, expert guys, professionals in this field, I understand this sounds silly, since you've seen everything by now. I am sure you guys can "smell" when something is wrong even without looking at the details... we, other guys, mortals :) are afraid when we see stuff like this, so forgive us please when we make stupid questions. I always think it's better to ask than to wander blindfolded, and what's better place to ask than this forum with great people in it and very knowledgeable individuals.

Your input for sure makes it easier for us, makes us all learn more and sleep tight :)

Even though it's coming from nobody like myself, I thank you one more time and want you to know it's greatly appreciated... all your help.

Maybe I missed something during recent updates, but where did the command line tab go to ? Just updated any lost 5Ghz settings so I need to run the commands to get them back.

The command line has been taken out of the firmware some versions ago due to security issues.

no-ip.com seems not updating?

Dec 11 22:23:08 ddns update: asusddns_update: 0
Dec 11 22:23:08 ddns: ddns update ok

even though it says "successful", however, in the "modify host" page at no-ip.com:

Last Update: 2014-12-11 20:19:36 PST

which was the last time when I did the manual update.

Any hope Merlin will release new version based on RT-N66U 3.0.0.4.376.3657?

He already merged that GPL version and proceeded to merge even newer versions, just have a lot at his GitHub repository.

The host does not get updated if the IP didn't change. Most DDNS providers would consider this an abusive update, and eventually blacklist you if you do it too often.

Hell when losing connection

Hi,

I have RT-AC68U and I am on latest RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_376.48_1.
Yesterday, I had to shut down the power in my house since electrician was doing some work. I made sure I turned off every single device in my home prior turning the main power switch off, so both my modem and my router where properly shut down using power button and then I even unplugged power cables.

After he was done (some 10 minutes later), I turned everything on. Used normal method I always use... plugged my modem in, turned in on, waited for DSL light to go steady, and after 5 seconds plugged my router in and turned its power on too. Everything seemed normal, all the lights on my modem and my router were as usual. My PC, Windows 8.1 machine, which is connected by RJ45 cable to my router, would show me I have internet and showing me I am connected (not limited connection, but full connection).

Yet, there was no way I could get to internet. Tried Chrome, Firefox, IE, nothing would work, total stop, pages wouldn't even open, blank screen. My iMac, which is connected using Wi-Fi also shows as conencted, as well as my Galaxy Nexus phone... still, none of my machines would open any pages.

After 2 hours of trying to reboot my router, restart my modem, there is nothing I haven't tried... still nothing. At the end, to be truthful, I can't even remember how I got my connection back. I called my ISP (not some technical support guy, but the head of my ISP since I know him personally), Securenet.net in St-Laurent, Québec. He checked everything on his side, and told me there is absolutely nothing on their end, and it looks like I have perfectly fine connection as far as they can see. When I logged into my router, there was nothing unusual, I could also see it stated CONNECTED and I could even see all my devices connected to my router, Wi-Fi ones as well as wired ones.

Now, I wouldn't make big deal out of it if it didn't happen 2 times in last 2 weeks. This time I had to turn power in my house off, and that was the reason I had to disconnect everything in the first place. The other day, I moved my router to another room, and that was the reason I had to disconnect it, but after reconnecting it, I ended up with exactly the same problem like stated above.

I don't remember I've ever had these "re-connecting" my internet connection problems with RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_376.47_0. When I unplug everything, reset my modem and my router, reconnect everything in usual order, I'd instantly get my connection back. Not with RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_376.48_1.

Is there anything I am doing wrong, is there any specific settings I should look into? If there is nothing, I might want to return back to 47_0. Sometimes I am away from home and connecting remotely to my home machine, but when internet starts trowing trouble like this, my wife at home has no clue how to reconnect everything and bring back the connection... heck even I don't know what to do now. Before, while i was on 47_0, I'd simply call my wife and tell her to turn off modem and router, wait at least 15-30 seconds, turn the modem back, and when DSL light is on and steady, turn the router on. That's all she had to do, and in a matter of seconds, literally, our connection would be back up and running.

Be easy on me please, my knowledge is limited. I am not bashing anything, simply reporting what's happening on my end, and hoping someone could recommend something so I don't run into these problems again.

Thanks in advance!

Check the router's system log to see if it gives any additional info.

On your affected clients, try to run a traceroute to an IP to see where the connection gets stuck:

Code:
tracert 8.8.8.8

Make sure the modem and the router are correctly plugged (i.e. modem is in the WAN port of the router, while computers are in the numbered LAN ports).
