Doing some tests between my laptop and server connected to the AC68U. Seems to be an issue with WLAN <-> LAN traffic when Adaptive QOS is on -

Performance is good when traditional QOS is on (or when QOS is completely switched off), but once Adaptive QOS is activated, WLAN <-> LAN traffic slows to a crawl.

Any ideas?

same thing for me. I turned on adaptive QoS (AC68U) and my torrent download wouldn't go above 500kB/s, which is about the same performance you were getting. Nothing else was taking bandwidth.

Where is file transferring in your Adaptive QOS prioritization?? Try dragging it to the top of the list.

Update to my last post.

Flashed my AC87R with 378.50 from both stock and 378.50.

I did a factory reset both times, and in fact I even went to far as to do a factory reset as soon as my router came back on from doing a factory reset (both from the UI and pressing the Reset button).

My issue is that after rebooting the router, when I connect to either 2.4 or 5 GHz network, I'm prompted to go through the Setup wizard, even though I already went through that same wizard. I can't upload pics, but if I could you'd see the setup wizard screen, but after I enter my admin credentials, the screen is white.

If I go to cnn.com, I'm prompted to access 192.168.1.1

It's only when I go through the Setup Wizard again (after logging into 192.168.1.1) that I'm able to connect.

This does not happen when I flash stock firmware (3885). Just flashed back to it, did a factory reset, and was able to add to my 5 GHz network without being prompted.

I should also add that I deleted the WiFi profiles from my phone and Mac before I tried to re-add to the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I think that's been suggested already, but do try a different web browser. Also make sure the username, password and wifi info you enter in the QIS does not contain any unusual character that might prevent the wizard from completing.

Anything in here that could possibly fix the Nat acceleration vs ipv6 reboots on an ac66? wondering if its worth trying.

When I enable URL-filter, I lost my IPv6 connectivity (RT-N66U, 6rd). If I disable URL-filter, it works again, enable again and IPv6 lost again.

When URL-filter is disabled my laptop shows in IPv6 log page, but when I enable URL-filter it disappears.

Works for me, using 6in4 - I can't reproduce the issue.

NAT acceleration is closed source. I can't change anything about it, and I don't even know how it actually works - even Asus doesn't get access to its source code.

Hi Merlin,

I had been testing out your firmware from RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_374.34_2.trx to RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_378.50_0.trx.

Apparently, only the firmware 374.34_2 or earlier allows me to use ipv6 without problem.

Any firmware after 374.34_2 till today, 378.50_0, I am not able to get ipv6 working.

I am running on Native mode which is ok for 374.34_2 but not on 378.50_0

This is what I get from the ipv6 routing table below using 378.50_0 :- It seem that IP address cannot be assigned. Once I revert back to 374.34_2, it is working again

IPv6 Connection Type: Native with DHCP-PD
WAN IPv6 Address:
WAN IPv6 Gateway: fe80::225:9eff:fe83:adec
LAN IPv6 Address: /0
LAN IPv6 Link-Local Address: fe80::beee:7bff:fec3:d200/64
DHCP-PD: Enabled
LAN IPv6 Prefix: /0
DNS Address:

IPv6 LAN Devices List
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Hostname MAC Address IPv6 Address

WAN throughput down by 20%? Even with QoS off / not enabled? I haven't turned on any of the new AIProtect features ether.

I was able to consistently hit 100 or even 104Mbit/s speeds on speedtest.net and my ISPs own speed test page, however after doing a full clean reload I am seen a BIG speed drop on WAN.

I might try another hard reboot and some more settings checks but something seems off.. Through the ASUS and Several merlin versions I have never seen external speed tests this low on my RT-AC68U.

I made further tests, RT-N66U doesn't lose IPv6, it just loses my laptop from IPv6 LAN Devices List, and my laptop loses it's IPv6. I got Win 8.1, use 5GHz wireless, all windows ipv6 settings are auto, what could cause this?

Might have been a coincidence and a temporary ISP issue. Speeds seem to be back to normal.. Now to try out these new features.

Why does RA/DHCPv6 on the asuswrt/r-merlin insist on broadcasting itself as sole DNS

Rant:

Why do the recent ASUSWRT/Merlin FWs insist on using the router's own IPv6 address as the DNS, even when there are manually configured DNSv6 servers in the settings?

Also, one thing that I notice is that the DNS server settings in the IPv6 pages doesn't seem to affect anything. The router itself will receive DNS queries via it's IPv6 addresses, but still forward the DNS queries to the DNS servers setup in the IPv4 DHCP and WAN settings......

So what's the point of specifying DNSv6 settings in the router?

Older firmwares (376.43 and earlier) does not seem to have this issue and will announce whatever DNS servers that is set in the DNSv6 pages........

And this is still happening in 378.50. It does cause major issues on lightly configured SMB LAN with Windows AD where the domain controllers HAVE TO BE THE DNS for the network......

Does the stock firmware work? I'm having problems with IPv6 stopping working after ~15 minutes ("ping -6 www.google.com" from the router times out). If I manually run "udhcpc" from the shell or reboot the router then it starts working again for another 15 minutes. This doesn't happen with the stock 378_3873. I'm using Native with DHCP-PD on TWC.

The issue I have is that LAN <-> Wireless (WLAN) transfers are also affected really badly by Adaptive QOS.

Can you check the throughput between your LAN and Wireless (WLAN) with something like iperf?

@CiscoX I think I'm going to order the AC87U and check what FA does on CPU usage compared to level 1 CTF and of course to see the benefits of the extra 200 MHz. I've just asked a company to 3D print some wall mounts for my AC68U, so I can use that as an AP at the attic, replacing my 'old' Buffalo WZR-HP-G450H.

edit: I just see that FA gets disabled when Adaptive QoS is on.

@RMerlin Did you see my questions about the IPTV GUI? Or did I ask for something that has been asked before or did I ask for it in the wrong place?

@sWORDs

Well I did OC my 68U to 1000,800 and run another speed test.
This time i got 900/800 in download/upload speed, (My previous test was 740/631 on stock speed) so indeed it helps with little bit more horsepower. All my settings are still the same, enable Adaptive QoS + all TrendMicro(AiProtection - Network Protection)

So if I OC little bit more, like 1200,800 I would probably hit close to 1000/1000. :)

This happened EXACTLY to my AC68U.
In the "switch control" page, both type accelerations were displayed for a while.
Merlin (and I believe in him:) ) answered me that Asus keep FA disabled...

Ok.. look at this...
With this IPv6 settings, I've got both hardware acceleration...

I've tried 1000,800 but it does not make a difference on the cpu load. It still goes to 100% when doing a speedtest with 500/500.

The CPU hits 95-98% if you set your Upload and Download Bandwidth to 300/300.

At 400/400 it hits 100%, maybe 98% in download, but 100% in upload.
At 500/500 it's more like 100% all the time.
