Attempting to share internet connection to second router.

New Around Here
As I understand Static IP routing is the method for sharing a WAN connection to a second router.

My first router is 192.168.1.1

My second router is 192.168.0.1

So far I've tried

But that's not working at all.

I've run an ethernet cable from one of the routers LAN ports to the WAN port of the second router

What am I missing?

So I'm confused, How can router 2 have a wan address if router one is the one connected to the WAN.

If not, where do I find router 2's WAN address?

The router has 4 LAN ports and 1 WAN port.

The WAN port is normally connected to the internet device (i.e. a cable modem). So WAN = internet in this situation.

But in your case the router #2 has its WAN port connected to a LAN port on router #1. So even though it's called a "WAN" port, it's not really being used to directly connect to the internet.

You can see router #2's WAN address in it's GUI on the main Network Map page next to "WAN IP:".

So I went in and modified the gateway to 192.168.1.22

The router was listed in the asus dropdown menu beneath gateway there and I went and changed the interface to LAN but it still isn't letting me access 192.168.0.1 and none of the clients are getting web access on router 2.

The little hint states on the gateway entry states "The specified gateway must be reachable first. It means you have to set up the static route to the gateway beforehand."

Are there any other static routes that need to be configured?

Before we go any further can you explain your particular situation and what you are trying to achieve. There may be a better way of doing it.

Also, what routers and firmware are you using?

I'm using an asus RT AC87R with 380.67 firmware and trying to use it with a Cisco RV325.

I'm trying to set up two separate networks because I'm handling over 200 clients and either router begins to suffer performance issues when attempting to handle all of them. New clients are extremely slow or don't load at all.

Each router has no issues up to 120 clients but I have only one ISP so I thought I'd just seperate them.

Which router is connected directly to the internet? Is that the Cisco? The route changes must be made on the internet connected device, not the 2nd (slave) router.

the asus is connected to the modem
OK, taking a step back... The only reason to setup a static route on router #1 (Asus) is so that devices attached to router #1 can connect to devices on router #2 (the Cisco).

Even without a static route set up, devices attached to router #2 should be able to reach the internet and devices on router #1. No changes are necessary for this. If this is not working then you've got the Cisco incorrectly setup.
