Best replacement for RTn66u for openvpn client

I need to replace my RT66U due to low openvpn client performance ~10mbps, which judging from what i read is as much as i will from the 600mhz cpu.

Combing thru some old threads, i see mentions that the AC56U has been one of the best choices due to its 1GH dual core cpu. Is there a better alternative now in the sub $100 mark?

At that price point, you may want to look at the refurbished units of the RT-AC68P (with slightly better cpu than the 'U' model) or higher.

At this point in the year though, you may also want to wait to see what else is introduced 'soonish'.
