Buffalo Linkstation LS421DE will not detect USB 3.0 HDD Dock

Hey all, I have a USB 3.0 dock that I am trying to connect via either usb port to my linkstation ls421de with no luck. I have tried formatting the drive in fat32, ntfs, exfat, empty space, etc... with no luck.

Here is the configuration:

Drives: 2 x 2TB WD green drives

I have tried calling buffalo tech support, and they don't have a solution. The purpose of adding these drives is just to back the linkstation up.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

First, connect the dock to a PC to check that it is working.
You might try a shorter, better quality USB 3.0 cable.
Also, I'm assuming the dock has its own power supply.

Other than that, you have hit a chipset incompatibility and need to get a different dock.

Forgot to mention it works great on a PC, and I have tried multiple different cables of various lengths. Also I have tried connecting a Seagate Goflex Home drive and a LaCie rugged drive with no luck either.

Hey, I also have this problem. I have a Linkstation 441DE and when connecting a 2tb Seagate USB drive formatted as exFat it wont mount the drive.

I can see the drive has been detected in dmesg.

I can also manually mount the drive on the NAS by doing:
mount /dev/sde1 /mnt/usbdisk1

Although I have not bothered getting further access via samba..

These NAS units seem to create a new share for each device mounted... which causes the NAS to go offline via SAMBA .. which is a bit stupid.

A USB3 hub, and a powered USB3 hub, would not work with my (non-Buffalo) NAS. Tried 2. It's as if the Linux drivers (of my NAS vintage) don't yet understand what a USB3 hub is.
A drive dock likely contains a USB hub.

Not on Buffalo, but I found that a USB3 bus powered 2.5 in. drive would work then fail during a transfer. Finally found that a fatter USB3 cable with larger gauge wires, solved this and the drive works 100% now.

Specs on current for drive say it needs more than the 500mA assured by USB.
It's a motor.

Go figure.
