For now I have my eyes on ASUS RT-AC1200G or G+ which should soon get dd-wrt support. What do you think about those? Both are broadcom-based.

In most consumer routers and many non consumer the ports connect through a switch chip. Normally this isnt an issue if you plan to connect many devices by wire but if you are using only 1 port, CPU connected ports are better. If you look at mikrotik block diagrams and performance, CPU connected ports use less CPU.
