Download Master: Hack to change username/password

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping to find some hackers/unix magicians able to help me change the username/password for Download Master 2 provided by Asus.

I tried looking around the router config files using ssh, and so far it seems that the files are copied during boot to a `/tmp` directory with all the configuration.

I need a different username/password for DM2 because I don't want to expose the router's admin password to the whole house.

Someone else might know better, but I think it uses PAM authentication, and the root account is hardcoded so even if you add a secondary account the routers account will still allow access and cannot be disabled. But that’s my guess. Similar issue with openvpn server on the router you cannot disable the use of the routers account for use, but you can add more accounts.

Since the router runs Linux kernel I’m sure anything is modifiable on a kernel level, but likely would cause software compatibility issues disabling root. Software wise proprietary software can’t be normally modified unless they release it open source. As for hacking software that’s not permitted on the forums.
