Hello,
I recently subscribed to a secondary Internet link and configured the Dual-WAN feature for the first time on my GT-AXE16000 running Merlin build 3006.102.4. I quickly noticed several bugs that prevent Dual-WAN from working properly.
In short:
  • Failover works more or less (even though the router reports that WAN2 is disconnected, it still works).
  • Failback never happens — the router doesn’t switch back to WAN1 when it becomes available again.
ChatGPT mentioned that this is a well-known issue with AsusWRT Dual-WAN and suggested trying Merlin WRT. However, since I’m already on a Merlin build, it recommended testing the alternative Dual-WAN failover script (via amtm).
👉 According to experienced users, what’s the best course of action?
  • Should I wait for the next Merlin build in the hope that Dual-WAN will be fixed?
  • Should I try the alternative failover script, and if so, what precautions should I take beforehand?
Thanks!

Honestly I would try the alternative failover script that you can easily install thru AMTM. Dual-wan hasn't been fixed by Asus in a long time and doubt it will be fixed anytime soon. It's broken on the stock firmware.
