Guest Network Pro not broadcasting on XT8 nodes (GT-AX11000 Pro + XT8 mesh setup)

Hey everyone,

I’m running a GT-AX11000 Pro as my main router. I recently changed that to the main router from an XT8 being the main router. The XT8s are now AiMesh nodes. I’ve set up Guest Network Pro, enabled it for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, and selected the nodes to broadcast the guest SSID as well.

The issue:

  • No XT8 node actually broadcasts the guest network — only the main router does.
  • In WiFi Explorer, none of the nodes show the guest SSID at all.
  • On the rare occasion if it appears, it’s 2.4 GHz only, even though both bands are selected in the settings.

Has anyone seen this behavior? Is this a known limitation or a firmware bug with Guest Network Pro across mixed AiMesh setups (GT-AX11000 Pro + XT8)?

Appreciate any clarity or workaround suggestions.

XT8 does not support Guest Network Pro. You need devices on firmware 3006.xx for this.

I really wish Asus would be more explicit on their Guest Network Pro support/explanation page that *ALL* devices, including AiMesh nodes, must be 3006.xx for Guest Network Pro to operate correctly.

[Wireless Router] How to set up Guest Network features to Sync to AiMesh node?
2. This feature can only be configured on the AiMesh router. Guest network is currently designed to allow the first set of each band (2.4G, 5G, 5G-1) available to the AiMesh node. Only one set is available for each band.
3. ASUS routers offer different guest network features depending on the model, including [Guest Network], [Guest Network Pro], and [Self-Defined Network (SDN) ]. Please refer to the following FAQ

right -- so this means what::: This feature can only be configured on the AiMesh router. Guest network is currently designed to allow the first set of each band (2.4G, 5G, 5G-1) available to the AiMesh node. Only one set is available for each band ??? Meaning cause I see no option for this ! Meaning it's not working at all !
I don't know where you read "it works but with limitations" but there's other threads where this was covered pretty extensively and the lack of 3006.xx on the AiMesh nodes means it isn't going to work at all. When it's working correctly you don't configure anything on the nodes, it's all setup on the main router.

Um -- this says: Guest network is currently designed to allow the first set of each band (2.4G, 5G, 5G-1) available to the AiMesh node -- It doesn't say it doesn't work with 3004 nodes - I don't see that mentioned anywhere !

You may be confusing Guest Network with Guest Network Pro which are not the same thing.

[Guest Network Pro] What is Guest Network Pro?

ASUS Guest Network Pro is an enhanced version of the Guest Network, allowing you to create multiple independent networks and VLAN combinations. It enables different access permissions, bandwidth management, and content filtering for each network, and even includes a dedicated network for IoT devices. This provides you with an efficient, secure, and easy-to-manage networking solution.

Notes:

1. Adding a Guest Network Pro also creates a new VLAN network.

2. Guest Network Pro is supported on WiFi 7 ROG series models and select WiFi 6 models.

3. This feature requires upgrading your ASUS router to firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_34312 or above.
[And right here is where it should say "Asus router and any AiMesh nodes"]

I mean in there own images: https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1045327/ on the tutorial it shows a BE router being synced with an AX older node and it's assumed only the 6Ghz band wont be synced from that photo lol - So I'm a bit confused ! ??? Can @RMerlin clear this up - I know you don't handle the wifi stuff but there seems to be a lot of confusion about this new Guest Network feature on the 3.0.0.6 firmwares If I downgrade my GT-AX11000 Pro would it work ??? --

The image you posted above shows the problem: your "Test_Guest" isn't a Guest Network instance, it's a Guest Network Pro instance (the VLAN ID of 52 gives it away). Your nodes aren't running 3006.xx firmware and aren't compatible with Guest Netrwork Pro.

Full featured Guest Network Pro won't work on XT8, but the available before the GNP introduction one GN per band will work.
What does that mean because I’m choosing custom network and entering the details and no node is broadcasting the guest network. I’ve verified it’s selected in the aimesh tab !!

This means if you want GNP features all the routers have to support GNP. This means all running 3006 firmware. If you have >3 nodes on this network - to me it means you have chosen wrong hardware. AiMesh doesn't scale well and the compatibility is low.

Ok but at least aren’t we supposed to have basic guest network functionality. On the 3004 branch we did.

How do I fix that ?? Just pick guest network not custom ?? Meaning how do I change the instance !
