I have setup an OpenVPN Server on my Asus Router at home. On my iPad I have the OpenVPN App installed with the configuration file supplied by my home router.

With this setup am I safe to use a public wifi for online banking? Would it be the same as if I was doing the online banking from home?
 
Online banking goes over HTTPS, so it's already encrypted anyway.
 
An encrypted VPN on top will hide the fact you visited X bank login page though.
 
Yes. However it provides privacy here, not security.
 
In the place we live once you connect to a bank your privacy ends there. I found once a bank I had no previous business with has a picture of my ID in their system. The bank I do business with knows where my personal savings accounts are and offers me matching “deals” often. Facebook.
