High CPU load when enabling Traffic Analyzer - Statistic on GT-AXE16000

Hi everyone!

I'm using an ASUS GT-AXE16000 with a 2/1 Gbps fiber connection.
When Traffic Analyzer - Statistic is turned off, my CPU usage stays very low – max 3-4%.
However, the moment I enable Traffic Analyzer - Statistic, the CPU load jumps dramatically – easily reaching around 50% or even higher, even under normal traffic.

Enabling Traffic Analyzer automatically activates the Trend Micro engine (Signature).

On the System Info page it shows: HW acceleration Runner: EnabledFlow Cache: Enabled
But it feels like hardware acceleration/flow cache is not actually working despite being shown as enabled.

My questions:
  1. Is there a technical way to log per-client traffic data without involving Trend Micro?
I don't need application analysis – I only want basic per-device bandwidth statistics.
  2. Why does enabling simple traffic statistics automatically turn on the full Trend Micro signature engine?
Because in this state the feature is basically unusable – the CPU load is way too high.

Thanks in advance for any insight or possible workaround!

What’s the actual issue? Does anyone from your network users even notice when you turn Traffic Analyzer ON and OFF?

  1. The CPU load is way too high. There is no hardware acceleration happening (or it’s not working properly).
  2. I’m not interested in application analysis at all – I only care about basic traffic volume per client.
  3. I do not want to use Trend Micro at all!My own experience: when Trend Micro is enabled, the router randomly freezes/crashes – it’s simply not stable enough.Without Trend Micro, the router is rock-solid and 100 % stable all the time.

This is how your router works. Hardware NAT acceleration is enabled because if it isn't your WAN-LAN throughput will drop under 500Mbps. Trend Micro is the 3rd party company providing this service, this was ASUS choice. The CPU is adequate to do the expected work and if the user experience is unaffected - there is no issue. There are add-ons for traffic metering, but to maintain somewhat accurate measuring you have to disable hardware NAT acceleration anyway. So make your choices from available options.
