How to access Ac66U Samba through openVPN server

I am a complete noob with VPN, but eventually managed to connect to my Asus AC66U running Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.354.29 (Merlin build) using OpenVPN on the router and OpenVPNgui on a windows 7 client.

All I want to do is access files on a USB drive attached to the router and set up with the samba server, but having established a connection successfully over the internet to the router, I have no idea how to connect to the USB drive or how to access the internet through the VPN connection. (But at least I have a working VPN connection!).

I have read through various posts here and googling, but suspect I just don't understand what I'm reading. If someone could explain the next steps simply for me I would be very grateful.

I apologise in advance if this question is just too dumb.

Simplest way is through a URI:

\\router_ip\
Or:
\\SMB_server_ip\

Thank you for your quick response.

I just tried the above again in windows explorer and the response was "the remote resource or device won't accept the connection". I do not have password access to the samba server active.

No problem accessing the samba server on the ac66u on the local network using the above, but not remotely through the openvpn connection which is what I am wanting to achieve.

Make sure you did have "Push LAN to CLient" enabled. Also, your computer might be rejecting SMB access from the tunnel IPs (10.x.x.x) - check its firewall and security software, you might need to open that subnet in its configuration.

I just checked and did have "Push LAN to CLient" enabled. Also, I disabled the firewall on the computer completely to test without any change. Same outcome as last time using "\\10.8.0.1\Seagate_Backup_Plus_Drive" in windows explorer (windows 7 client.). The outgoing router is an Asus ac66U too if that makes any difference. I appreciate your assistance.

Not sure how, but my Samba share on the router now seems to be visible in Windows explorer! (connected with Android too!) :D

And that was without any further changes. .....maybe I missed something......

Many thanks RMerlin for your help and also the great work you do in providing the router firmware.
