Latest (Oct 2024) "best" recommended router for Merlin?

Looks like the ASUS RT-BE92U are kinda a side-grade from RT-BE88U. The 92U got better wifi(?) but worse hardware(?) it looks like.

Actually, it got worse Wi-Fi. Yes, there is an additional 6 GHz band, but it’s 2x2 - same as the 5 GHz band, and 2.4 GHz is 3x3. The 88U has 4x4 on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.

So the 92U is a mid-tier router, moderate in everything, while the BE88U is a top-tier router, but without the 6 GHz band.

Which one is better really depends on your needs. In my case, 5 GHz is not congested, and I’m able to get ~1.7-1.9 Gbps, so I don’t need 6 GHz anyway (which also has worse range, BTW).

Correct. It has a weaker CPU, which means worse performance when running a VPN on the router, for example.
