NAS no longer visible?

Hi

Apologies if this post finds itself in the incorrect forum, I suppose it could be a router issue, however;

I am a Virgin Media UK customer and previously used their "Super" Hub. To this I connected a Buffalo Linkstation live and it worked just fine. Sadly the Router was a bit flaky and, having read the review on here, I bought myself an RT-N66U Dark Knight which works like a charm.

However, my NAS is no longer visible on my network. I've tried using the install disc supplied with the router and setup cannot complete as it cannot find the NAS.

I'm unsure if the problem is with the NAS or the router. I've tried changing the cable connecting the NAS to the router and using a different port on the router, but beyond than I have no ideas. I know nothing about networking and as such would like to request some assistance and suggestions!

Many Thanks

Your NAS has a static IP addreess then connect it to your PC directly and see if you can connect to it? Change your PC IP to static IP showing the same Sub Mask and Gateway. Now see if you can connect to your NAS? If not then there is a problem with the NAS. Does the port lines on the NAS show the Green and Orange Amber? Are they flashing or not? Sure you must have reset the NAS and still acting up?

What did you change prior to getting this issue on your NAS?

Brilliant, thanks. I'd reonnected all my old kit and the NAS is in a different IP range to my new Router/set -up (192.168.0 v 192.168.1).

Tried and failed to change it but will try again this evening. Didn't know that I could connect it directly to my PS (with changed IP) so I will do that later and either (try to) change the IP of the NAS or set it to dynamically assign.

Only change I made was the Router. Wasn't able to get to the router to reset, bit will do that later too.

Many thanks

Job done, as per your suggestion it was a static IP address. Once I was able to set the NAS to dynamically assign IP, everything works fine.

many thanks
