Need permission to access drive

asus ftw

New Around Here
Hi everyone,

I am new to routers so please don't be too hard on me. I cannot for the life of me understand how to access my network drive. I am running Merlin's 3.0.0.4.374.43_0 firmware on a N16 and I have managed to set up the USB flash drive (Plug and Play) with share enabled, all R/W permissions etc. I access log in to the drive no problem. When time passes, I get this error (with correct login) saying:

\\RT-N16 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the admin to find out if you have access permission.
Multiple connections to a server or a shared resource by the same use, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resources and try again.

I don't have any other connections. I just logged in once and when I try to access the drive, it asks me for the login in details again and this pops up. I've had a workaround with a computer shutdown. Anyone know what the issue is? Should I try an older firmware? Thank you very much.

Thanks for your reply. Initially I can access the drive using admin/password combo. Later it will ask me again to provide my log in credentials (user name as password) and then the error pops up after providing it.

I am running Windows 7 Pro.

It could be a DNS issue. To prove/disprove this can you try accessing the share via its IP address instead of the hostname. i.e.

\\192.168.1.1 instead of \\RT-N16

P.S. Do you use more than one network on your computer? For example a VPN connection.

I tried it and got it working. Thank you.
I'm glad you got it to work, but if you want to use the name (RT-N16) instead of the IP address you will have to find out why your name resolution isn't working all the time.
