Wi-Fi chipmaker Quantenna has announced reference designs for two Wi-Fi "boosters".

The design comes in single and dual-band versions. According to the announcement, the single band version is based on the company's QV840 4x4 802.11ac Wave 2 Wireless LAN Chipset Solution, while the dual-band QV860-based version adds an additional 2x2 802.11n n/g/b radio for a dual band, dual concurrent solution.

Both solutions offer a peak PHY rate of 1.7 Gbps in 5 GHz,. The dual-band version supports a peak rate of 300 Mbps in 2.4 GHz. The designs have their own processor and feature automatic channel selection and DFS, MU-MIMO and intelligent QoS support.

Quantenna is targeting service providers to improve coverage and speed of existing "legacy" home gateways without the need to swap out the gateway itself.

The company said "multiple OEM and ODM partners currently have Quantenna based Spartan AP Booster solutions in mass production today".

Quantenna is doing a good job these days - some hits on the reputation based on some devices from Netgear/Asus/Linksys in the consumer market, but their verticals were always good...
