I have been having serious headaches with my VPN disconnecting for the last few weeks. A part of the log file is bellow with the complete log file for the last 12 ish hours attached...

Jun 3 08:38:10 openvpn[4740]: NOTE: the current --script-security setting may allow this configuration to call user-defined scripts
Jun 3 08:38:10 openvpn[4740]: TCP/UDP: Preserving recently used remote address: [AF_INET]213.152.162.4:80
Jun 3 08:38:10 openvpn[4740]: Socket Buffers: R=[122880->122880] S=[122880->122880]
Jun 3 08:38:10 openvpn[4740]: UDP link local: (not bound)
Jun 3 08:38:10 openvpn[4740]: UDP link remote: [AF_INET]213.152.162.4:80
Jun 3 08:39:10 openvpn[4740]: [UNDEF] Inactivity timeout (--ping-restart), restarting
Jun 3 08:39:10 openvpn[4740]: SIGUSR1[soft,ping-restart] received, process restarting
Jun 3 08:39:10 openvpn[4740]: Restart pause, 5 second(s)

It seemed to start when I uprgraded to 380.66 which may well just be a coincidence. I have tried with UDP and TCP, hostnames and resloved hostname, port 443 and port 80 but nothing seems to fix it. I have also done a factory reset on it.

Current settings are as follows...

The router is a Asus RT-AC87U running 380.66_4 and the VPN is AirVPN.

Any help on this much is very much apreciated!

Try setting TLS renegotiation time to something like 3600 (1 hour).

I would also specify an explicit Hash digest instead of Default, and double check the TLS authentication to ensure it's really what it needs to be (this currently configured setting isn't very common with tunnels, so I'd double check that.)

Thanks for the help! I am without broadband for the next week but will let you know what happens.

update to 380.66.4 I had similar issues where the VPN would drop but now I have no more problems.

That is the version it is currently running. Will have internet again from tomorrow so will see if Merlin's suggestions fix it or not.

Back online and 16 hours without any issues apart from a lot of replay packers from time to time. Hopefully fixed. Thanks for the help!
