router.asus.com not working on Firefox anymore?

There is one good damned reason: because I trust the certificate and want my browser to respect my wishes. Mozilla has been getting full of hubris like this as of late, telling users what's good for them rather than letting users decide how they want to use things. That's how they squandered their user base and continue to spiral into the ground. I finally had to ditch Firefox myself as it became too much. It seemed sad somehow after using just about every "Netscape" product serially from 1992 through 2022. I take it as a healthy reminder how bad leadership can grind even the best product into the ground. Mitchell Baker has been to Mozilla what Eddie Lampert is to Sears.

I'm also a former Firebird user. Ben Harrison had the right idea. The Mozilla Foundation doesn't.

I noticed the same problem has started to occur recently when using Firefox. I'm able to use Firefox to login via HTTPS on a non-standard port by IP address and port number.
example:
https://xxx.yyy.zzz:abcde

Using router.asus.com:abcde gives me the rejection message with no option to accept the risk and continue, as the poster describes.

I noticed this problem today, after deciding to try my Asus RT-AX86U again to tweak some settings to see if they would fix my smart device issues with that router. Anyway, I changed my bookmark to the router's IP and it's OK. Usually in the past whenever I had an issue with the site, I could just clear cookies and cache for the site, and it would work again. However, not this time.

What's odd though is, firefox still works with tplinkwifi.net for my other router, without issues, and that's not an HTTPS site either. The router.asus.com issue seems recent, as it's been working all along, maybe this is specific to the 104 release of firefox.

For anyone on this thread who still wants to use router.asus.com with Firefox, use this instead: https://www.waterfox.net/ It's a fork of Firefox, and still works.

I can just use the ip, or the hostname of the router and be fine. For me though, when doing testing 103.0.2 seems to be the last version of the main Firefox that will connect to the regular http site. I posted Waterfox as an alternative because it also excludes a lot of the new features of Firefox people may not want and will offer them an alternative browser with the Mozilla core.

It's not a problem if the person knows their router's local IP address, or the hostname they've assigned to the router. The problem is for people who don't know those details that use the "router.asus.com" address. It seems like version 104.xx has either changed something, or introduced a bug that prevents (at least the http address) from connecting. As I've mentioned, it's not a big deal. Since using the local ip / hostname works, or using a different browser works for those wanting to use the other address.

As mentioned, I mainly wanted to provide an alternative for those who want to use Firefox, or a fork of it to access the router in their usual way without having to look up the local address.

ESR is also a good option. I just typically don't think about that unless I'm on an older OS, so that's why I hadn't mentioned it.

For me when I try to connect via http://router.asus.com:80, it recently just started redirecting to https:// equivalent, completely ignoring my request to open port 80. While on Chrome for Android it still works.

I very much prefer Firefox for Android for it's extension support. I'll try downgrade the Firefox version to 103.x for now and see if it helps.

Tried Firefox for Android 105.1.0 and http://router.asus.com:80 still just redirects to https:// standard port and thus is unusable. Try to keep it on 103.2 or below (Google Play Store auto updates are frustrating to turn off though since I'm installing an older version from apkmirror's website.

Great news! Firefox 105.0 seems to have fixed the router.asus.com issue. After installing the update this morning, my bookmark worked correctly again.
With this said, I'm also leaving the local bookmark as well in case it happens again.

Firefox 105.x on Android for me hasn't fixed the problem. I use Firefox Nightly 106.x and the problem is also still there.

I'm using the Desktop browser on macOS, and router.asus.com started working again, after the update. Try clearing the site caches if you haven't already. Whenever that site doesn't load for me, clearing the data usually fixes .

May I suggest PaleMoon browser as an alternate also.

I just looked at the PaleMoon site, and it doesn't seem to have a native macOS build. I could run it in a Windows VM, or a Linux one. Not sure if it would compile on the mac as a UNIX binary, or not.
When making recommendations for software, the best are those that work on all major platforms. Like I said though, based on their site, I don't know if this would run natively on a Mac, even with the source code download.
