New Around Here
Hello guys!

I've recently purchased an RT-AX58U and installed merlin on it and I'm having weird connection drops ever since. (Both ethernet and Wifi affected)

Everytime that this happens the logs are registering this: (No other recent activity besides that messages)

Code:
Apr 22 18:45:30 kernel: httpd (1489): drop_caches: 1

Logs for the same timestamp as the message:

Code:
Apr 22 18:01:14 hostapd: eth5: STA WPA: group key handshake completed (RSN)
Apr 22 18:01:14 hostapd: eth5: STA WPA: group key handshake completed (RSN)
Apr 22 18:01:14 hostapd: eth6: STA group key handshake completed (RSN)
Apr 22 18:01:15 hostapd: eth6: STA WPA: group key handshake completed (RSN)

The router sits almost all the time around 0% CPU utilization and has 250MB RAM Allocated

And I cannot find information about that message.

Any ideas?

Use the Better Search function at the top of the page.

All those messages are normal. The drop_caches message is generated when you log into the router's GUI.

At 18:39:06 your 2.4GHz WiFi changed from channel 10 to channel 9 because it had less interference. That may be the cause of your problem. Change the 2.4GHz Control Channel from Auto to 11. Change the 2.4GHz Channel bandwidth to 20MHz.

Hi @ColinTaylor,

Thanks for answering and for clarifying that!

That would impact ethernet connectivity? because the problem that i'm having is both affecting Wifi and ethernet.

I logged in immediately to the router when I noticed that behavior, that's why I thought it was an error message.

I'm also using an AX58U on 386.5_2 and am having similar occasional drop out issues both on wireless and ethernet. I haven't figured out what's causing it yet.

Hi @Riley600!

Have you seen any error message on your sys logs? have you experienced the same behavior using the official firmware?

Edit: I've switched to OFW 3.0.0.4.386.48631, I will report back if the problem persists or if it gets solved

I haven't noticed anything in my system logs but will check a little more diligently next time it happens. I haven't used the official firmware for a while, so I can't comment on that (although it looks like you switched and still have the issue).

I don't really remember this issue before 386.5, so maybe there's an Asus firmware bug? I did do a factory reset, however, the problem still persists albeit maybe it occurs a bit less often.

Hi @Riley600,

I followed @crkpot suggestion and performed a hard factory reset and the problem seems to be solved.

I will update the post in a few days to let you know if the problem reappears.

Hi @bojji
Is your router still problem free? The issue is getting worse for me...I did a factory reset already but am contemplating doing a hard reset as mentioned above with hopes that it'll fix the issue.
