RT-AX88U Pro currently has the ASUSWRT 5.0/3.0.0.6 firmware. Is the RT-AX86U Pro expected to receive this version of the firmware, or will it be stuck on 3.0.0.4 forever?

New model. It will be getting the latest firmware branch when available.

Yes, it has Pro in the model name and 3.0.0.6 beta officially available.

Just wait and it will arrive. Then wait for about 2 years and it will start working as expected. :)

If you think other brands home router will be any better - pick one and good luck. Don't assume support because of what you had in the past. With Wi-Fi 7 products coming out no wonder if current AX-class routers hit End-Of-Life much sooner than expected. Not because they are unusable, but because the manufacturers want you to buy more. Business, marketing - sorry. Disposable products are better for the business. You're welcome.

Just 1 2.5G port which is worthless. So you can't share your 2.5Gbps internet plan with devices on the network.

LAN Ports >Gigabit are also worthless if you have nothing to do with >Gigabit.

With 2.5GbE WAN you can get aggregate throughput >Gigabit on LAN + WLAN.

It may be worthless for you, but for people who don't have 2.5Gbps or faster internet plan (or the desire to upgrade to one) its not such a sticking point of the router. The features and specifications of the RT-AX86U Pro are what they are. For some the router is more than enough for their needs. For others who need the absolute fastest speed (even if some of their network devices will never use it) there may be better routers for their needs. Some just like having the top of the line even if they never use all of the capability it may provide. Others are more practical and buy want they need or can afford for their use case.

Back to the OP's question, Will the AX86U Pro get non beta 3.0.0.6 firmware? One would assume it will eventually. Asus made noise early on about certain features found in the 3.0.0.6 firmware and the "Pro" line receiving those features, but its been sort of crickets since then for some of the Pro routers on actually seeing those features in the non beta firmware.

Or just don't understand well how it works. It usually starts with a little more for an ISP plan upgrade. It costs hundreds of dollars after in chasing the speed on user's end. At the end of the day the Internet experience remains the same, but some business got or is getting more money from the user.

Anyone know if "AX86U Pro" will still get 3.0.0.6? I noticed sales pages have changed and references to ASUSWRT 5.0 have been removed.

One can install the Beta version of it:
ASUS RT-AX86U Pro Firmware version 9.0.0.6.102.4856
Version 9.0.0.6.102.4856 Beta Version 55.14 MB 2023/03/21
Right now apparently Asus has only released the 3.0.0.6.x firmware for two routers (RT-AX88U Pro and GT-AX6000), they claim more will be getting it.

On the Asus Support What is Guest Network Pro page they state the following supported routers; "GT-AX11000 Pro, GT-AX6000, GT-AXE16000, RT-AX86U Pro, RT-AX88U Pro, ZenWiFi Pro ET12, ZenWIFI Pro XT12, more models are coming." On the Asus Support What is a VLAN and how to use it page they state; "VLAN supported models: RT-AX86U Pro, RT-AX88U Pro, GT-AX11000 Pro, GT-AXE16000, GT-AX6000, ZenWiFi_Pro_ET12, ZenWiFi_Pro_XT12, ExpertWiFi Series".

The logical assumption is that final release versions of 3.0.0.6.x will eventually be coming to the RT-AX86U Pro and other previously named supported routers. Unless of course Asus decides to kill off ASUSWRT 5.0 for some reason in favor of some new marketing pitch.

@d5aqoep If you have a look at the link I posted you can see an idea the WebUI makeover AsusWRT 5.0 was supposed to have!

Where do the numbers in ASUSWRT 4.0 5.0 6.0 ... come from? Doesn't make sense comparing with firmware versions.

AsusWRT 6.0 needs new WebUI makeover.

Asus ExpertWiFi series firmware has a complete GUI refresh.

It resembles Omada SDN Controller:

Asus websites... there is no ASUSWRT 6.0... ASUSWRT 5.0 is next gen fw 3.0.0.6.* still in Beta mostly ....as far as I can tell.

It's somewhat of an hybrid. The new dashboard is totally new, based on Boostrap and does look really polished, you can even customize some of the displayed widgets, but all the settings pages are the original pages embedded in a wrapper, and using the new light CSS.

Unfortunately that UI will be limited to Expert Wifi, unless they change their mind in the future.
