Dear,

I live in Belgium.
I have bought a RT-AX88U.
This router is behind a modem / router from my ISP.
I have a subscription for:
  1. 70Mbps download
  2. 20Mbps upload
When i configure the RT-AX88U as a router i will get the following speeds:
  1. 52Mbps download
  2. 20Mbps upload
When i configure the router as an AP i will get the full speed.

Can anyone give me some tips to achieve the maximum speed without going to AP mode ?

PS.

The ISP provider doesn't allow to activate a bridge modus on the modem / router as far as i know.
An the ISP provider also delivers IPTV.

Thanks for the tips.

Michel

Even though the ISP says there is no bridge mode... If your ISP has a support web site you could search for how to activate bridge mode or a "type of bridge mode" on your router/modem. You could also look up those instructions for your brand and model of modem/router from the manufacturer's support web site. If you can't find information about bridge mode or simulated bridge mode then you could try setting up your Asus router's address in the modem/router's DMZ.

I've set up Asus routers in the ways I described in my first post before on modem/router combinations for three separate ISPs... Verizon FIOS (with TV), Spectrum and AT&T UVerse. All of those setups involved changing the settings in the ISP's modem/router combination hardware. All of those setups are working perfectly right now at full ISP speeds with Asus RT-AX86U routers plugged into the ISP modem/router combo's LAN ports.

Either your ISP has to configure their hardware remotely to allow a type of bridge mode pass-through or if you can access the ISP's hardware then you should be able to make any necessary changes yourself in the settings. If your modem/router hardware is configured properly and you don't have something unusual happening with your AX88U hardware or setup then you shouldn't be experiencing very noticeably worse performance than if you were plugging directly into your modem/router combo LAN port.

If you want to post your ISP's router/modem hardware information (just the brand and model) then someone in this forum using the same or similar combo hardware could "possibly" help you with optimizing the setup for use with the AX88U.

(Also try using CAT6 or better Ethernet connect cable.)

Some additional information.
I'm running the latest firmware from merlin.
I configured an ppoe session so DMZ shouldn't be the problem if i'm informed correct (i'm not a network specialist).
Merlin is running SPDmerlin.
On the wired connection to the ASUS i'm getting the max speed.
On the Wan i only managed to get once the the max speed (this morning).
I will do some more testing and research this weekend.

PPPoE should not be configured on the Asus. The Asus WAN Connection Type should be set to Automatic IP. PPPoE should only be configured on the ISP router.

I don't know what you mean by "DMZ shouldn't be the problem".

You can configure pppoe on router, I don't see the reason why it would be problematic, I have pppoe based internet and I configured on rtax88u and everything is working fine.

One would only configure PPPoE on the Asus if the device in front of it was operating in bridge or pass-through mode. That is not the case here. The OP still has his ISP router operating as a router, and it is the ISP router that is configured for PPPoE. In this configuration the Asus operating as a secondary router so it is pointless configuring it for PPPoE (as you would be creating a tunnel within a tunnel).
