RT-AX89X SFP+ single mode

New Around Here
Hey guys, new member here, limited experience in networking.

I have a Unifi switch (AGG PRO) with SFP+ ports, a 1gb transceiver for single mode optical cable, single mode BiDi optical cable up to my unit, another 1Gb transceiver into a media converter (1Gb connection) and then a RJ45 Gigabit connection to my router.
I want to upgrade to 10Gb connection and X89X seems like an interesting option, but:
-does the SFP+ port work with single mode BiDi transceiver / cable? I only found one reference to this and it said it works with multi-mode optical cable, but no single mode idea
-I want to use X89X to avoid buying another media converter for 10Gb.
-does X89X work with the Unifi switch directly for 10Gb transceivers with single mode?
-I want to use the SFP+ port for WAN and the 10Gb RJ45 for LAN.

Thanks

Why do you want to use single mode? That's for long hall. Will your provider simply provide a fiber drop and you are responsible for all CPE? Most SFT+ will work in any device that dose not have a manufacture that plays games by checking for brand the way Cisco dose. I suggest you ask Asus what brands and models they have tested with as you are concerned.

Thanks for the reply.
The building was already cabled with single mode G.657.B3, so not a choice I could make.
Any contact from Asus where I could ask?

Try there regular support channel.

I tried the regular support channel......
They have no idea..... just reading the manual (I did it long time ago, no mention of the transceivers supported..)
It's impossible to find this kind of info??

I feel your only option is to purchase from a place you can return them to without question. Any will probably work

Good luck,

Morris

Yeah, I need to buy 2 transceivers and the router.... not cheap....
Any other router with 2x 10Gb ports?

Thanks!

You are going beyond what a consumer router/AP can do today. I think you need to look at your application and use discreet components meant for the SOHO market or the hospitality market. You are already aware of Unifi. Very popular in in the hospitality busyness is MikroTik and there 5 port 10-Gb switch/router will get you 10-Gb switching at wire speed or routing at about 7-Gb. Very reasonable at $136 US.

Before purchasing as a router, make shore you are up to configuring it. There are lots of videos and docs available. If you want to use Asus for your AP and/or to router part of your network the RT-AX86u has a 2.5 Gb cat 5 port. The SFP+ that work with MikroTik are easy to find. If you want, share your network design with me, I'd be happy to look at it.

Thank you for your support, I was looking at MicroTik as part of my future 10Gb network, as I have at least 2 desktops that I want to connect to the router.

I just found out that my call to Asus support cost me 20$, and I still didn't find out the simple info I was looking for.
The agent was totally unprepared, put me on hold many times to "look" for the info, finally he found the manual for the router (that I read and it doesn't have the info), repeated 10 times what I wanted to find out, and in the end was not able to find the info.
The worst experience with a manufacturer support, to pay for info for their own product :O

I'm still looking..

That's incredibly frustrating!
