RT-BE88U wifi.....slows?

I have an issue I have not seen before and since this router is new I am wondering if anyone has encountered it. note: i have not factory reset yet because its such an odd issue and i dont know if i should just return it or if something else is awry.

I have GB google fiber and on a fresh boot everything is fine. wifi speeds are at or slightly above provisioned speed unless i get reasonably far from the router.

After a couple days, sometimes two, sometimes more, but typically within a week my wired speed is fine, speedtest in the router is fine but wifi [both 2.4 and 5ghz] drops to abysmal rates.. [think 100Mbps tho it will inch up a bit here and there] - until i reboot again and everything is fine.

I changed to the most recent Merlin firmware thinking maybe it was a firmware issue, but alas it persists. My confusion lies in the fact that its not a fixed amount of time that passes, and I can not find a "pattern" so its difficult to know where to go from here.. i'm trying here before i factory reset because i have a lot of mac address entries and port entries and a pihole configured so to redo all that manually would be quite the issue.. and since its not "broke on boot" I figure just maybe the smart minds here has seen this.

in any event, thanks in advance.

You mentioned Merlin firmware specifically so, being a staunch Merlin user and having the same router I have to say I never have this problem (uk too).
What devices do you have connected on wifi? When the wifi slows do you see any other traffic in the router's Traffic Analyzer? Any "wlceventd" events in the logs? MLO active?
It's quite possible your device is dropping to the 2.4GHz network for a better signal, and then getting stuck there.

@bscabl Have you set fixed channels for your Wi-Fi bands or are they on Auto? If they're on Auto it's possible the router's changing to a worse channel or reducing the channel bandwidth.

i thought about this... it is still on auto.. and there are a number of neighbors on the same channel according to WIFI analyzer on my phone [tho it says channel is "Excellent"... not sure how that could be..lol] ... i know a lot of interference will certainly kill speed. - ive also seen disabling B and a few other settings mentioned... like airtime fairness....

Hopefully the recommendations above regarding channels and bands will alleviate the issue you’re seeing, but just on your comment about reconfiguring, if you’re comfortable with SSH and WinSCP (Merlin only) there are a number of ways to both repopulate manual assignments and port forwards.

I just noticed before I rebooted it it was at 80mhz now its at the full 160. i wonder if that is correlated somehow [i changed no settings yet because i work from home lol] - wonder what would make it drop to 80mhz [same channel both times.. 48] and if that is the pattern i was looking for.
