RT-N16 NordVPN config

I have an Asus RT-N16 router with FreshTomato firmware. I was trying to configure NordVPN on it but it does not work.
NordVPN customer service says this router is not supported.
Am I at a dead end or is there a work around? Thanks.

RT-N16 is an 11-year old single core 480MHz CPU router. Even if you manage to run VPN on it somehow, it's going to be very slow. I would run NordVPN on the client(s), if possible. If not possible, you have to upgrade the router. What VPN speeds you are hoping for?

but with your router VPN speed will be dozen Mb

Cheers for your response. Speed was not the priority…was more curious to see if it was technically possible to get it to work.
