I just bought a refurbished unit online. I noticed it rebooting, so I installed RMerlin fw on it to the the temps.
Both radios were registering 62 degrees C.
I took the cover off to see if maybe the heat sink was loose but it seems fine.
My thermal thermometer gives me readings of around 55C aimed right at the top of the heat sink.
With the cover off the GUI reads 55 degrees on both radios, so it's 7 degrees warmer with the top on.
Is this normal? Should I take the heat sink off re-apply some thermal paste?

I have the same router and those are average temperatures. I wouldn't worry about it too much, my radios are in the high 57-59 range and our home is fairly cool.

Why is my other rt-n66u about 8C lower?

Thanks. I'll not worry then.

Ok. I just found it unusual to have such a difference between 2 identical units.
