making your own firewall

You are not "making" a firewall, but collecting some community updated IP lists for an IP-blocker, most likely Skynet in your case... which custom script is not a firewall either. The whole effort is with questionable benefits because the default Asuswrt built-in firewall behaviour is to block all unsolicited connections and IP/region blocking is not as effective as some may think.

every other country in that list is sanctioned and should not be communicated with anyways. servers by war torn countries being taken over by terror is not the best business

It's a router that can be bought at staples, think about it. A pc would be the best option for this But I am having fun programing this device.

How much overlap in these lists? What’s the final count of blocked IPs and ranges?

What is open on the router wan side to make you so vulnerable? Or who is using your LAN that might be trying to talk to one of these blocked IPs?

Jack, you have to overcome the blocking obsession. You are hurting yourself and your network users.

Then you should uninstall Unbound and Entware from your router together with any other addons that use Entware. Entware is maintained by three Russian developers. Maybe that's why your previous router stopped working properly and you had to buy another one?

According to online sources the United States is #3 on the list of Cyberattack Origin for year 2025. I would strongly suggest adding them to the blocked countries list, @Jack-Sparr0w. Huge security hole in your firewall. The guy in McDonald's is probably watching you already.
