i purchased a new house and recently realized that all of my "phone lines" were actually wired with cat5e and that the outlets accept both phone and rj45 ethernet. since i actually only use one phone line in the house (the other phones just connect wirelessly with the one base) i decided to have the other "phone lines" which terminate in the basement into a security/phone box converted to rj45 so i can use them as network lines or phone lines (i also had to have the "phone motherboard" changed to one that accepts rj45. I have dsl bc there is no option for cable for internet at my location and am looking to get my network up to giga speeds although of course ill still have bad internet speeds. Previously i had my house covered with 3 buffalo routers running ddwrt in WDS mode. Ill still want wireless for the wii, ipod touch, and a few other gadgets. I plan to bring my dsl modem into the basement and connect it to one phone line then to one of my buffalo routers and then hard wire that to a 16-18 port switch (i think ill need about that many). Ill then use almost all the other "phone" connections as wired ethernet placing a wireless router on each floor of the house. Does this sound like a good plan? Any recommendation on a switch or a 16-18 port combination switch/router. What mode should i place the ddwrt routers in since i dont want them in wds connecting to each other any longer since this would reduce their bandwith? Thanks for reading this long explanation and for any suggestions.
