Unable to flash RT-AC66U with recovery (SOLVED)

I've got an AC66U with Merlins 376.44 firmware

This morning I noticed the CPU was at 100% so I tried to reboot from the web page.
Nothing happened so I turned it off using the power button.
When I turned it back on I had no IP (just the 169.#.#.#) using a wired LAN connection so I tried several resets, tried some 30-30-30s. Still no luck.
So I installed the Asus recovery utility and tried to recover.
The utility shows the firmware uploading then when it says recovering it gets to about 3% then jumps to rebooting.
The router reboots and I have the power LED flashing fast & 1 LAN light but still no connectivity.

I've searched the net in vain for a solution.

Any ideas please????

Cheers
Phil

Hi,
First restart your pc, then run ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, ipconfig /all
what do you see on ethernet gateway, ip address? What are they?
Then can you ping the router? If you can, what is TTL value? You can try TFTP method to flash.

Thanks Tony

If I set a static IP address then put the router into recovery I can ping it.
TTL=100

I've tried TFTP and it successfully completes.

After the router reboots the power LED just flashes fast.

Cheers

Hi,
Weird. Power LED flashing is waiting for f/w file. Did you hold the reset button like couple minutes there?

Well I don't quite know how but its fixed!!!!!

The rescue tool only ever got to 1% then reset the router which I thought was odd.

So I TFTP'd it and left it for a couple of hours after is said successfully transferred.

Then I did the reset with the WPS button and it sprang to life!

Thanks again for your help Tony.
