I notice on my tablet's wifi analyzer app that the brand of router and/or network name are not displayed for some in my area even though it's a strong signal. In my case it's all there. Is there a way to block this info? Is it a firmware option?

Seems like not providing the bad guy your router brand is a good security start, although I don't know much about it.

Those apps attempt to identify the router brand from the BSSID which is based on its MAC address. So there's nothing you can realistically do about that.

The manufacturer is trivially derived from the (infrastructure) BSSID present in every packet from your AP which starts with a globally unique Organizationally Unique Identifier in the same way as a MAC address. Since you can always obtain a response from an AP by probe request or monitoring, and it is normally not possible to change the BSSID (either hardcoded or enforced by firmware), there is nothing you can easily do to hide it.

Just follow the usual router/AP security check list. Here is such a list: Router Security Checklist.

The most important items being to disable WPS, use WPA2, and use a strong password, preferably one created by a password manager.
