What would have caused the complete net and phy stack restart ? I didn’t make any other changes at that point. I had to do a power recycle to get wireless back..

The restart was initiated by the httpd service according to your log, so it must be something you did on the webui that triggered the restart.

I have ASUS RT-AC87U. Flashed with 384.4 Beta 1 coming from 380.69_2 firmware. Did a full reset. On Network Map then Clients when I click View List or on the Client Status (on Right) anything that is connected to the 5GHz wireless is showing as a Wired Connection. If I view Wireless Log it shows correct there. Have refresh page and cleaned temp files. This is with MS Edge and IE 11, only browsers I have installed.

Been mentioned multiple times already, same issue also exist on stock firmware, and networkmap is now closed source so beyond my control.

Quick question about performing a reset: is there any difference between doing it through the web interface or phsyically holding the reset button? Is one preferred over the other?

Shouldn't matter.

2.4 Ghz radio busted on AC86U with this build.
Done settings restore, reboot, power cycle.

Works for me (I'm actually sitting right next to an RT-AC86U right now, was doing some IPSEC benchmarking on it tonight).

Try doing a power cycle of your router to reset it.

I can confirm in this version the WiFi scheduler does not work on RT-AC86U.

To be honest, with previous release, the WiFi scheduler feature worked intermittently. I don't also if this is part of a closed source component and also I suspect this behaviour is the same for the stock firmware

The wireless schedule times don’t appear to ‘stick’.
An issue I’ve found with both stock, & Merlin firmware.
It works, but the time settings vanish if the router is rebooted, or power cycled for any reason.
I suspect also that changing any router setting after setting up schedule times, also deletes the times. YMMV.
My work around, I make setting up any wireless schedule times always the last thing I touch in config, before logging out.

Also; with stock firmware, even though the times were still set in the router, it would just decide not to work after 3 or so days. Merlin though, ok thus far.
A few more days to be sure........?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I've been in this position before and know the drill.

Actually, they did just push out an update - 2.9.9.10 - but the Router Applet still has no DNS resolution.

...and it may have killed Merlin's OpenVPN client. I can no longer connect to Astrill servers that were working this morning. Error in the log: OpenVPN could not start.

I will keep an eye on it. Have already brought it to their attention.

Haha - the response from Astrill was:

Merlin 384.4 beta 1 has some bugs. You need to downgrade the firmware and the router applet will work fine.

It's always someone else's fault, isn't it. I think we all know who is behind the curve here.

Upgrade from 384.4 alpha 2 to beta 1 on AC86U went fine yesterday.

However, when I woke up this morning I had no internet connectivity on my mobile devices. Looks like (only) DNS is not working (I can ssh into the router using the ASUS DDNS, but nslookup does not show IP addresses). A reboot of modem and router did not help.

Will need to investigate further later today (I use unbound and Quad9 over TLS; the same configuration is still working fine at an AC68U router running 384.3 that I can access remotely).

I have a router RT-88U, it began when on official firmwares made IPsec support, here and now put Asuswrt-merlin 384.4 Beta-1 the problem is present. The problem appears by accident, being in the web interface having passed to the VPN - IPsec tab, the web interface of the router hangs, but thus the Internet works both on a wire and on WIFI. Tried to enter the web interface from different browsers does not work until you restart the router. Nobody faced with such, how to solve?

Doubt it since nothing was changed related to wifi between these two releases, however if you came from 380 to 384 without doing so, it might be a good idea indeed.

Restored to factory default and setup from scratch.
Found out qos with fq codel - automatic setting restores the speed.
But putting it at manual setting will drop the wifi speed by 30%.
Something that i did not experience during alpha2.

Had been running the beta on an RT-AC3200 but yesterday the router got into an odd state... I was still connected via wifi (5Gh) and ethernet across a variety of systems, but I had no data throughput on any -- couldn't even get to the router UI. I previously had the same issue with the alpha.

For now I've gone to the current official firmware to see if the issue reoccurs (it wouldn't surprise me if it's an issue in the base).
If it does my next step will be a full reset/reconfigure, again with factory
If that works I'll try merlin again, if it fails I'll go back one level on official (the prior 382 version)

Do you have a very large set of DHCP manual assignments migrated from an earlier build?
Hard to tell for sure, but I saw one place in the code where exceeding the new length limits might trigger an erroneous 'restart_net_and_phy' action

I don't.. but noticed quite a few of my clients are marked as static, even though I have not marked them as such.

I'm trying to downgrade my AC68U from this 384.4 to 380.65 but the firmware restoration tool completes to 100% and presents a "failed to recover the system" error message.

Is it possible to downgrade or am I stuck on 384?

EDIT: I managed to get back 380.67 using webgui, then back to 380.58 using restoration tool and then back up to 380.65 using webgui.

Is there any way to change the wifi channels used when SmartConnect is enabled on an AC86U? Sure would be great to be able to force it to 20mHz and channel 11 on 2.4, but it appears just to pick a channel that it thinks is best... which is not always the best choice. In my case I found SmartConnect, after a little tweaking to disable load balancing features, was better than just setting both bands to the same SSID. Now if I could tweak the channels and 2.4 width to 20, that would be awesome.

RT-AC68U miniDLNA testing. I disabled the LAN>IPTV>EMF forwarding then tested miniDLNA streaming. miniDLNA streaming is back to working properly with LAN>IPTV>EMF forwarding disabled.

Since I never had this enabled prior to 384.3_alpha3 I will leave this disabled unless someone can inform me it is a good thing to have enabled for my situation.

Try doing a power cycle of your router to reset it.

Unsure why it works for you, tried multiple times, power cycling, re-flashing, restoring settings. No luck. reverted back to .3 now until it becomes more stable. I have nothing than default settings when this happens, and have only the Ethernet ports plugged in if that makes any difference.

You're kidding right ??? o_O:rolleyes:

Smart Connect is just that, the system chooses the best connection for you.

If you want to force connections then simply set the channels manually.

On the 86U I had these errors today. The UI Network map was empty, saying 0 devices are connected. But all devices were online and working fine.

I think you are misunderstanding what I am asking for (or I did a crappy job of wording my question). I want it to pick the band for the device like it is designed, which it does well. What I am asking for is control over the channel/frequency that it assigns to each band. 11 is free in my area, but the router insists on using 1 or 6 or 7 for 2.4. All I am asking for is the ability to just tell it that I want it to use channel 11 for 2.4. I still want it to do what it does, I just want to be able to have some control over the frequency is uses. I don't think that is an unreasonable request. I have always found the automatic frequency choices that Asus routers make to be a little silly.

Restoring a previous config did not work, I initialized the router and set it up manually after leaving it unplugged for a short while.

cfg_server crashed according to this. Unfortunately, it's closed source - it handles config synchronisation between AiMesh nodes, and the service runs even if AiMesh isn't in use...
