New Around Here
Hi,
I have a small office with a network inside.
This network is composed by:
3-4 Wireless notebook with windows
3-4 Wireless notebook with Mac
2 Wired Desktop Mac
1 Laser Printer wired attached to the router
1 NAS also wired attached to the router

The router that I use now is very simple.

I'd like to be able to connect to my NAS by Remote, using internet from external my network.

This functionality needs DDNS and Port Forwarding.
Then, I have read about VPN, and I'd like to know some more about it and about its tunneling protocols (IPsec...ecc)

My questions are:
1-I have to change my router and I need that it will have:
a-wifi
b-supports 10 connections VPN at the same time
c-DDNS
d-Port Forwarding
e-switch Gigabit integrated (possibly...)
what kind of router and what model do you advise me?
I'd like to have a VPN tunnel with a minimum of performance....

2-witch tunneling protocol do you suggest???

3-on the client side of the VPN tunnel, to start the connection do I need to install a software??
Is it possible to have the NAS resource available like a normal HD, so that when I press it, then automaticly it will start the VPN tunneling??
the tunneling will we used with MAC pc and WIN pc too.

last think: My internet provider is an ADSL, so, the router should have the ADSL 2/2+ modem integrated.

Thanks a lot for any suggestion and sorry form my english.....
Bye!

Cisco RV082

Hi,

I use the Cisco RV082 to accomplish most of what you listed. Including the mixed PC / Apple environment. Only one item that is not done by this hardware. There is NO wireless. You need to use a separate wireless access point to provide that connection.

I have purchased my RV082s from
http://www.provantage.com/cisco-systems-rv082~7LNKR00K.htm

There is also a cheaper (fewer ports) model.

Specifically... I tried to answer your questions below........................

Hi,
I have a small office with a network inside.

3-4 Wireless notebook with windows
3-4 Wireless notebook with Mac

Ans: Wireless not supported by the RV082. You can probably configure hardware you have to be just a wireless access point and use plugged into the RV082.

The router that I use now is very simple.

I'd like to be able to connect to my NAS by Remote, using internet from external my network.

Ans: RV082 is a VPN endpoint that can use ipsec or pptp protocols.

This functionality needs DDNS and Port Forwarding.
Then, I have read about VPN, and I'd like to know some more about it and about its tunneling protocols (IPsec...ecc)

Ans: RV082 had DDNS and port forwarding. Can find easy setup instructions online.

My questions are:
1-I have to change my router and I need that it will have:
a-wifi
b-supports 10 connections VPN at the same time
c-DDNS
d-Port Forwarding
e-switch Gigabit integrated (possibly...)

I'd like to have a VPN tunnel with a minimum of performance....

2-witch tunneling protocol do you suggest???

Ans: I think ipsec is more secure but pptp was easier to setup.

3-on the client side of the VPN tunnel, to start the connection do I need to install a software??

Ans: You need a VPN client. If pptp, this is built in on Apple and PC computers. If ipsec, you need a client on the computers or you can buy a second RV082 and set up a always on VPN connection between two points.

Is it possible to have the NAS resource available like a normal HD, so that when I press it, then automaticly it will start the VPN tunneling??
the tunneling will we used with MAC pc and WIN pc too.

Ans: Not sure about this. You can alway set your computer to auto launch and connect through VPN. Then the HD would be accessible by just clicking an alias or shortcut that you previously created.

last think: My internet provider is an ADSL, so, the router should have the ADSL 2/2+ modem integrated.

Ans: Modem is NOT integrated. Still need a modem. RV082 has PPOE functionality so you can use it to make the connection through a modem.
