Honestly, if I was having persistent weird issues with my RT-AX86U Pro, rather than spending hours trying to troubleshoot. I would, after a basic round of troubleshooting, just perform a hard factory reset and do a manual reconfiguration and see if the issue persists. Usually ends up being faster to reset and reconfigure than spend all this time troubleshooting. Sometimes weird issues can be fixed with a router reset. If a USB drive is attached to the router, might be wise to remove the drive before performing a hard factory reset and only reconnect the drive after the router has been confirmed as working properly.

As I wrote, it doesn't make sense. This is my third router, and each one has had the same problem from the start. Three different models. During that time, the computer and operating system have also been replaced several times.

I have the same issue on Edge as I do on Chrome Incognito. It asks me for my password and then redirects me to the login page in the first window.
Why do you keep talking about multiple windows? You can only login to the GUI once. It’s not designed for multi user sessions.

Do you have IPv6 enabled? What results do you get if you nslookup www.asusrouter.com from the client?

Have you verified that any browser extensions are disabled for Asusrouter.com (I.e. adblockers)?

I opened a second window (in Edge or Incognito mode) to test what was happening. Just for this.
ps. By the way, it shouldn't matter anyway. If something malfunctioned with two windows open, it would be an error.

IPV6 is disabled.

The only extension I have is Adobe

Do you have the Login Captcha enabled on the "Administration / System" page? If so, try disabling it for a while. Running out of ideas.

I've disabled it and will wait a few days.
If it starts working, great. The conclusion would be that this is handled incorrectly. The code returns a request to redirect, but it doesn't.

ps.
Looking at it this way, it's not surprising that it doesn't work.
The client reads it with Ajax and receives HTML instead of any data, and doesn't analyze what it received. I can't find where in the code it receives this or if it checks anything from the query.
Maybe adding
websSetStatus(wp, 302);
would help.

ps2.

You also might try (post #24) changing back to stock 192.168.50.1 as that is what aligns with www.asusrouter.com: I’ve seen intolerance here previously .

Your’s might be the 10.x.x.x but use whatever it came with out of the box.

You might think I’m crazy for this suggestion. Not saying that the way you use it should cause a problem but…

Another remote possibility is if your browser tries to put tabs to sleep as a power savings. The router gui will logout if it hasn’t gotten any feedback within 60 seconds.

Captcha disabled, but the problem remains.
Is there a source code for asuswrt anywhere?

On a little tangent here but it may just be relevant.
If I reopen the browser and the last router page is still open it refreshes but only shows the main window (no headers or sidebar). If I then manually refresh the page it goes to the login.
I don't know how long this has been happening as it's become normal to me. Not a firmware issue, it's a browser issue, and it's the same with both Firefox and Chrome on Android. Something in the security settings is preventing redirects.
My fix for Firefox was to go into the security settings and disable a couple of settings, including a new-to-me "DNS over HTTPS" and safe browsing. These setting had been set without my knowledge or consent.
Safe Browsing was preventing me opening my router via plain domain name - I had to use domain/Main_Login.asp else I'd just get a blank screen where redirect prevention had blocked it.
Anxious typing over. Basically, our own browsers with their new defaults are blocking redirects to Main_Login.asp

I am not seeing any of the issues reported here. I use Firefox on Android, iOS, OSX, Linux and Windows. Seldom if ever use another web browser. Am thinking the problem is likely operator error?

I agree with the above post.
If you see the same behavior with different (ASUS-) routers on your computer(s), the issue seems related to your computer and / or browser setup, most probably you have set the browser(s) to block certain features.
I am using Firefox on different computers (Windows and Linux), with quite strict settings and the GUI of my ASUS router always shows complete.
In case of doubts of certain website behavior I fall back to Edge (the default Windows browser), which also has no issues with the router GUI. My experience of the past many years is that my Firefox never lies and shows what shall be shown.

I repeat: I've changed computers three times over the years. Windows 8, 10, and 11.
See the logo screenshot posted above. What does the browser or the computer have to do with it? It's clearly a software bug.

You’re running stock firmware that’s been out for 7 months. No one else has reported this behavior before. You need to think about how your computers interact with the router.

Any “security” software installed on Windows? Do you have a non-windows machine to test from?

Any Asus app or home assistant integration also trying to access the router gui?

The router logs speak for themselves. My computer/system/browser has no influence on this. It's just the server and client talking to each other.

There are no antivirus programs, etc. All my computers are running Windows 10/11.

Home Assistant for three months. Nothing before that.
