Amped Wireless announced the latest product in its Artemis family, the AC1300 Artemis-AP access point. Similar to the Artemis-EX range extender and Artemis Wi-Fi router, the new access point is a 2x2 802.11ac device supporting MU-MIMO, with maximum link rates of 399 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and 866 Mbps at 5 GHz.

Run by a quad-core ARM processor, eight amplifiers and 128 MB of DDR3 memory, the Artemis-AP includes a five GbE port switch and a USB 3.0 port to attach storage.

The Artemis-AP AC1300 access point is now available for $129.99 on the Amped Wireless website.

I bought a couple of these to use for a consignment sale event. 12 PCs and 4 credit card readers, mostly on 2.4 GHz with an ethernet-connected server. They worked well at my house, we'll see how they hold up to more clients.

They performed fine at the event. No noticeable lag compared to the old 100Mb Ethernet rats nest. Uplinked using a Cradle point MBR650 on Verizon, although most traffic was local. Credit card terminals running Linux authorizing EMV chip cards were blazing fast, even using 2.4G 802.11n.
