ASUS router login after latest beta install

stewy

New Around Here
problem with Asus 3100 router after installing the last beta, everything works fine until you activate this feature
NEW: Added new Internet redirection mode to OpenVPN clients
called "Policy Rule (Strict)". The difference from the
existing "Policy Rule" mode is that in strict mode,
only rules that specifically target the tunnel's
interface will be used. This ensures that you don't
leak traffic through global or other tunnel routes,
however it also means any static route you might have
defined at the WAN level will not be copied either.
In general, it's recommended to use this new strict
mode.
* Once activated you can no longer login to router, only way back is a router reset* the connection times out on login, otherwise everything still works you just can't login.

anythought?

regards stewy

Works for me. What rules are you using?

I'm new to all this networking stuff, I have only one rule set which i believe is supposed to kill all connections to the router if the vpn drops.

That rule is incorrect, if you want to route the whole subnet, it should be 192.168.1.0/24. You might also want a second rule to exclude your router from it (192.168.1.1 through WAN).

hello
ok I have set the route subnet to 192.168.1.0/24 and you do need to exclude the router through the wan. when using the strict policy rule.

it all works now.

One last question how do you know if the VPN connection drops you lose the internet connection, I thought turning off the VPN would test this but still have a connection.

anyway to test this?

thanks stewy

hello again

I thought that if you turned the VPN off you should be able to test if your kill switch was working so I went back to firmware 380.65_ and it indeed does kill the internet connection when running the kill switch.(192.168.1.0/24 - 0.0.0.0 - VPN) policy rule.

The Beta builds on my router do not I still have a Internet connection with the VPN turned off.
