Another password suggestion, is if you're on a Mac, use Safari's auto password generator, and then copy and paste the password into your desired browser. That's what I do with all my sites now, and it works well.

Normally, yes, everything works. But there are caveats:

• Sometimes (very occasionally) the supplier of the FW will state you should do a factory reset. Do one.
• After a change in codebase from e.g. 3004 to 3006 branch (wich may not apply to you) a factory reset is an absolute. Do one.
• After changing FW from Stock to Merlin or vice versa, a factory reset is highly recommended.
• After a big jump in versions even on the same codebase a factory reset is highly recommended.
• If you're having issues with something on the new FW that were not apparent on the previous FW a factory reset is highly recommended.
• If you have been updating and downgrading FW without doing a factory reset for a while i.e. lots of dirty updates, then from time to time a factory reset is highly recommended.

You are correct. If it works for you, great! But it is a good idea to take a settings backup before you upgrade and be prepared to roll back if problems arise.
I am still unsure why I had problems with the upgrade. It is working OK for now so I will leave it for a while.

Something weird is going on with this firmware. I know Network Map is wonky but when Ethernet connected clients that are connected to the router show up as wired clients to the AiMesh node, which only has WIFI clients, something is wrong!
Am going to roll back to 102.34349 for a bit...

That's been happening to me forever. But people seem to have a range of experiences with Network Map.

Not seeing that on my aimesh node. But i think this has been a know issue that sometimes pops up with the icons.

Back up and running on 102.34406. I suspect my "issues" were the result of a corrupt upgrade and a reset that failed to clear all the settings. Even a hard factory reset did not work to clear the settings. I believe the Ethernet connected clients showing up on the AiMesh node was the result of the failed reset and the use of the former node as the router. Sounds complicated but...
To fix my problem I removed the node (which was the original router) from the mesh, factory reset from the GUI then did a hard factory reset. With the unit WAN not connected I flashed 102.34349, did a minimal setup, factory reset from the GUI then a hard factory reset. I then did a full manual setup with the WAN disconnected. When that router was working I swapped it out with the other AX86U Pro to avoid internet down time to not upset the family. I then did the same reset, flash 102.34349 and reset to the other AX86U Pro to get it ready as an AiMesh node. Added the node to the router and let the system run for a while. After a while I did an upgrade to the router and node from the GUI to 102.34406. No complaints from the family!

I updated to this FW from the asus app after seeing a popup that stated “firmware update available-strongly recommend to do a manual reset before updating” (so I did a reset to the router before which was odd) however, my question is why didn’t this automatically update if the auto update setting was enabled? (I thought it was not, but it was)

I can only suspect maybe they do it sporadically to avoid a server overload ?

A number of people are reporting (in the past week or so) trouble with the router GUI contacting Asus to obtain the updated firmware. You can just download the firmware manually (from the link in the initial post) and manually install it.

If the router is indicating it is updating but then returns back to the prior firmware, try rebooting the router and see if the new firmware is installed. Other troubleshooting steps when having issues updating the firmware:
Clear the web browsers cache.
Disconnect any attached router attached USB hard drive prior to starting the firmware update process.
Use a computer connected by Ethernet directly connected to the router when performing the firmware upgrade (don't use WiFi).
Try a different web browser.
Try a different computer.
Temporarily disable any security software on the computer used to update the firmware on the router.
Do not connect through a VPN when attempting to access the router and update the firmware.

Let me clarify, I was able to update the firmware via the app. And it shows updated. My question was had I not seen the popup, I would’ve never known to update it AND auto update was on, but it never updated… why would it not auto update?

I ran into a couple of problems ... (I did a hard reset)
1) I can no longer reserve an IP address for a device on the IoT SSID - so was this a bug that was fixed or is it a bug now?
It shows in the device list ...

2) I have my AT&T BGW320 GW in IP passthru mode, but after I upgraded I had no WAN/DNS. I had to turn off passthru then turn it back on before WAN worked. I've didn't have this issue the last 2 updates.

If you have the Guest Network Pro profile's Use same subnet as main network disabled then you do not use the LAN DHCP Server page to set it's manual IP reservation. Instead you use the Manually assign IP address around the DHCP list on the Guest Network Pro profile's Advanced Settings page/section.

And yes, for what ever reason Guest Network Pro profile clients will still be shown under the Client Name (MAC Address) drop down box in the LAN DHCP Server manual reservation section even though one has Use same subnet as main network set to disabled.

Nice to be right once in a while.
I find it unnecessary to use the manual assignment function. For clients that I want to have the same IP address I assign them a static IP in a reserved pool of addresses. I set the DHCP starting address to allow for the number of static addresses plus a few extra. For clients in the guest area it does not matter what address DHCP gives them as it seldom changes.

Yeah, stock firmware does not have "Use same subnet as main network". (I thought it used to ...) Either way, it worked in the last build.

You can change the guest LAN IP to match the router LAN IP.
